{"id":4326,"date":"2016-10-10T17:44:39","date_gmt":"2016-10-10T12:14:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/198.58.113.91\/blog\/?p=4326"},"modified":"2019-05-12T02:53:37","modified_gmt":"2019-05-12T02:53:37","slug":"settings-replace-control-panel-win-x-menu-windows-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/settings-replace-control-panel-win-x-menu-windows-10\/","title":{"rendered":"Replace Settings with Control Panel in Win+X Menu in Windows 10 Build 14942"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Starting with Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14942, the Win+X menu items (the menu which appears when you right-click on Start) which were pointing to the classic Control Panel applets are now directing to corresponding pages in the modern Settings app. Also, the entry &#8220;Control Panel&#8221; is now replaced by &#8220;Settings&#8221; in the Group 2 section of the Win+X menu.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/winx-settings-replace-1.png\" alt=\"win-x menu replace settings\" width=\"262\" height=\"582\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4327\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Links to the following menu items are changed* and point to Settings app, only if you do a clean install of 14942 using the ISO.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Programs and Features<\/li>\n<li>Power Options<\/li>\n<li>System<\/li>\n<li>Network Connections<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>* Src:<\/strong> The changes were first spotted by <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/insidewindows.net\/2016\/10\/10\/winx-menu-changes-in-windows-10-build-14942\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>InsideWindows.net.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And, whether you did an upgrade to 14942 via WU or clean installed using ISO, the &#8220;Control Panel&#8221; link gets replaced by &#8220;Settings&#8221; in the Win+X menu. To remove Settings and add Control Panel back, you can copy the Control Panel shortcut (in the Group 2 folder) from a system running a previous Windows 10 build.<\/p>\n<pre>%LocalAppdata%\\Microsoft\\Windows\\WinX\\Group2<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/winx-settings-replace-2.png\" alt=\"win-x menu replace settings\" width=\"649\" height=\"324\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4328\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve made available the shortcut &#8220;4 &#8211; Control Panel.lnk&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/control_panel.zip\">control_panel.zip<\/a>. Download, unzip and move the shortcut to the Group 2 folder path mentioned above, and overwrite the existing shortcut when prompted.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/winx-settings-replace-3.png\" alt=\"win-x menu replace settings\" width=\"528\" height=\"525\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4329\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Logoff and login back for the change to take effect.
