Although you can change the view to Details, or any other view setting manually, the change affects only that folder. Sometimes, search results view settings may not stick at all.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4273\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/w10-search-results-content-view-1.png\" alt=\"search results content view windows 10\" width=\"650\" height=\"434\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This happens when searching for files in a folder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/file-explorer-slow-working-green-progress-bar-foldertype\/\">optimized<\/a> for &#8220;General items&#8221;. Whereas when you search for files in the Pictures and Videos folders, the search results view defaults to <strong>icons<\/strong> view.<\/p>\n<p>This article tells you how to set the Search Results folder default view mode to <strong>Details<\/strong>, for all folder types.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Set Search Results default view mode to Details<\/h2>\n<p>To make search results (for Generic folders) use <strong>Details<\/strong> view by default, I made a registry fix. Follow the steps below.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/fix_generic_search_results_view_w10.zip\">fix_generic_search_results_view_w10.zip<\/a> (zipped), extract the REG file and save to desktop.<\/li>\n<li>Logoff and login back or do a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/exit-explorer-restart-windows-10-8\/\">clean restart of the Explorer shell<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Right-click the REG file and choose Merge.\u00a0This REG file clears saved folder views and sets <strong>Details<\/strong> view mode as the default for Search Results folder.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4275\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/w10-search-results-content-view-3.png\" alt=\"search results content view windows 10\" width=\"453\" height=\"96\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>That\u2019s it. Do a file search in a folder optimized for &#8220;General Items&#8221;. Search results should default to <strong>Details<\/strong> view from now on.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Note:<\/strong> If the above doesn\u2019t work, reset saved folder views using my script or manual procedure in the article: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/reset-folder-views-bags-windows\/\">How to Reset Folder View Settings in Windows?<\/a>.
