This is because .divx and .flv extensions aren&#8217;t registered as type &#8220;video&#8221; by default.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/divx-perceived-type-1-1.png\" alt=\"divx and flv perceivedtype video\" width=\"650\" height=\"393\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4178\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/divx-perceived-type-2-1.png\" alt=\"divx and flv perceivedtype video\" width=\"650\" height=\"368\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4179\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Windows treats the following file extensions as type &#8220;video&#8221; as they&#8217;re registered as such using &#8220;PerceivedType&#8221; value or &#8220;Kindmap&#8221; registry key.<\/p>\n<pre>3g2, 3gp, 3gp2, 3gpp, asf, asx, avi, avm, awm, cmv, ivf, m1v, m2t, m2ts, m4v, mk3d, mkv, mmm, mov, mp2v, mp4, mp4v, mpa, mpe, mpeg, mpg, mpv2, mts, mwf, qt, ts, tts, vue, wm, wmv, wmx, wvx<\/pre>\n<p>To make Windows Search find and list .divx and .flv files when searching with &#8220;kind:&#8221; operator, these file extensions need to be registered as &#8220;video&#8221;, using one of the methods below.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 1: Add PerceivedType value for .divx and .flv<\/h2>\n<p>Start Regedit.exe and go to:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\.divx<\/pre>\n<p>Create a new string value (REG_SZ) named PerceivedType<\/p>\n<p>Double-click PerceivedType and set its value data to video<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/divx-perceived-type-3.png\" alt=\"divx and flv perceivedtype video\" width=\"618\" height=\"184\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4175\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Repeat the same under the following key, for .flv file extension:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\.flv<\/pre>\n<p>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\">\n<h3>Using Command-line<\/h3>\n<p>To accomplish the same using command-line, open an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/open-elevated-command-prompt-windows\/\">elevated Command Prompt<\/a> window. Type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:<\/p>\n<pre>reg add HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\.divx \/v PerceivedType \/d video \/f\r\nreg add HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\.flv \/v PerceivedType \/d video \/f\r\nexit<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<p><i>Use the above information to register as many file extensions as you need, as &#8220;video&#8221; file type.<\/i><\/p>\n<h2>Method 2: Register .divx and .flv under KindMap Key<\/h2>\n<p>In the Registry Editor (regedit.exe) window, go to the following key:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\KindMap<\/pre>\n<p>In the right-pane, create two string values (REG_SZ) namely:<\/p>\n<pre>.flv\r\n.divx<\/pre>\n<p>Double-click each value and set the value data to <strong>video<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Exit the Registry Editor, logoff and login back.<\/p>\n<p>Wait for search index to update. Or simply create a new folder and copy some sample .divx  and .flv files. Do a search for:  <strong>kind:=video<\/strong>.
