You can launch Chrome&#8217;s incognito mode from an existing Chrome window by pressing Ctrl + Shift + N.<\/p>\n<p>This article tells you how to (always) start Google Chrome in incognito mode by default, when double-clicking an URL file or clicking on a hyperlink in your email.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Start Chrome in incognito mode by default<\/h2>\n<p>To start Chrome in incognito mode, you can create a desktop shortcut using one of the following command-lines:<\/p>\n<pre>\"C:\\Program Files\\Google\\Chrome\\Application\\chrome.exe\" -incognito<\/pre>\n<pre>\"C:\\Program Files\\Google\\Chrome\\Application\\chrome.exe\" --incognito<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4565\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/chrome-incognito-1.png\" alt=\"start chrome in incognito mode\" width=\"363\" height=\"244\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>However<\/strong>, when you double-click a URL or HTML file, the regular Google Chrome window opens up instead.\u00a0So, here is a registry edit to <b>always<\/b> launch Chrome incognito, when double-clicking .<code>URL<\/code>, .<code>HTML<\/code> or any other supported file type.<\/p>\n<p>The registry edit below also works for opening websites using the <code>HTTP:<\/code> or <code>HTTPS:<\/code> protocol addresses from the Run dialog.<\/p>\n<h3>Open HTML, URL files, and HTTP links in Chrome Incognito by default<\/h3>\n<p>To open <code>.HTML<\/code>, <code>.URL<\/code> files &amp; <code>HTTP, HTTPS<\/code> links in Chrome Incognito by default, use the following registry edit.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Start <code>regedit.exe<\/code> and go to the following key:\n<pre>HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\ChromeHTML\\Shell\\open\\command<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Add the <code> -incognito<\/code> switch after the Chrome executable name. For example, if the <code>(default)<\/code> value data is set as:\n<pre>\"C:\\Program Files\\Google\\Chrome\\Application\\chrome.exe\" \"%1\"<\/pre>\n<p>Change that to:<\/p>\n<pre>\"C:\\Program Files\\Google\\Chrome\\Application\\chrome.exe\" --incognito \"%1\"<\/pre>\n<p>By adding the <code>--incognito<\/code> flag after chrome.exe, you can make sure Chrome always starts in incognito mode by default when clicking hyperlinks in mail, or double-clicking an <code>.HTM<\/code>, <code>.HTML<\/code> or <code>.URL<\/code> file.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> If Google Chrome is installed in a different path or under within your user profile, make sure you use the correct path to <code>chrome.exe<\/code> when creating a shortcut.<\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>That&#8217;s it!
