Nothing may happen when you click Start and press a letter.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\">\n<h3>Related issue: Start search box is empty<\/h3>\n<p>Is your Start search window showing up empty, as in the following screenshot?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13692\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w10-start-search-blank.png\" alt=\"start search empty\" width=\"1186\" height=\"971\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w10-start-search-blank.png 1186w, https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w10-start-search-blank-768x629.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1186px) 100vw, 1186px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Workaround<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Disabling Bing search for the Start\/Search box circumvents the problem.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open <code>Regedit.exe<\/code> and navigate to the following key:\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Search<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it <code>BingSearchEnabled<\/code><\/li>\n<li>Leave the <code>BingSearchEnabled<\/code> value data to 0.<\/li>\n<li>Under <code>BingSearchEnabled<\/code>, double-click<code>CortanaConsent<\/code>, and set its data to 0.<\/li>\n<li>If the value <code>CortanaConsent<\/code> doesn&#8217;t exist, create it manually of type DWORD (32-bit).<\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<li>Log off and login back for the change to take effect.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Once Microsoft fixes the issue at their end, you can delete the <code>BingSearchEnabled<\/code> registry value and then set <code>CortanaConsent<\/code> to 1.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>[Fix] Search Results Showing No Results in Windows 10 Settings<\/h2>\n<h3>Step 1: Check if Windows Search Service is Running<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Press WinKey + R, type <code>services.msc<\/code> and press ENTER<\/li>\n<li>Double-click <code>Windows Search<\/code> and set its start type to Automatic<\/li>\n<li>Manually start the service by clicking Start in the services window.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Step 2: Reinstall the Search App using PowerShell<\/h3>\n<p>Start PowerShell and run this command to reinstall the search app.<\/p>\n<pre>get-appxpackage Microsoft.Windows.Search | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register \"$($_.InstallLocation)\\AppXManifest.xml\"}<\/pre>\n<p>If you receive an error that the package can&#8217;t be found, try running the following command from PowerShell Admin.<\/p>\n<pre>get-appxpackage Microsoft.Windows.Search -allusers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register \"$($_.InstallLocation)\\AppXManifest.xml\"}<\/pre>\n<p>Log off and log back in. The search function should work correctly in the Start menu as well as Settings.<\/p>\n<p><em>(Proceed to Step 3 only if required.)<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Step 3: Fix the Settings Index folder path in the registry<\/h3>\n<p>The search app&#8217;s index should be regenerated after running the 2nd command. If that doesn&#8217;t help, try fixing the search app&#8217;s index path in the registry.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Start the Registry Editor (regedit.exe)<\/li>\n<li>Go to the following location:\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Search\\Microsoft.Windows.Search_cw5n1h2txyewy\\SettingsConstraintIndex<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Inspect the folder paths assigned for the values <code><strong>LatestConstraintIndexFolder<\/strong><\/code> &amp; <code><strong>CurrentConstraintIndexCabPath<\/strong><\/code><\/li>\n<li>Ensure the folder paths are valid and pointing to the correct folders. For example, here is the <code>LatestConstraintIndexFolder<\/code> value data on my computer.\n<pre>C:\\Users\\Ramesh\\AppData\\Local\\Packages\\Microsoft.Windows.Search_cw5n1h2txyewy\\LocalState\\ConstraintIndex\\Settings_{fefa25a2-43f6-4921-9bbb-56081442649c}<\/pre>\n<p>The above folder has the following files related to the Settings search index:<\/p>\n<pre>0.0.filtertrie.intermediate.txt\r\n0.1.filtertrie.intermediate.txt\r\n0.2.filtertrie.intermediate.txt\r\nSettings.ft\r\nSettings.index<\/pre>\n<p>On some systems, the profile path or the <code>Settings_<\/code> folder name may be incorrect. For instance, it may be incorrectly pointed to another user profile folder that does not exist on the system. Or, you may have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/rename-user-profile-folder-windows\/\">renamed the user profile<\/a> home folder and didn&#8217;t update the registry paths.<\/li>\n<li>Fixing the value data for\u00a0<strong>LatestConstraintIndexFolder<\/strong> &amp; <strong>CurrentConstraintIndexCabPath <\/strong>fixes the search issues in the Settings app.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27592\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/settings-search-index-location.png\" alt=\"settings search index location - settings app no results empty\" width=\"768\" height=\"218\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Similarly, fix the <strong>CurrentConstraintIndexCabPath<\/strong> &amp; <strong>LatestConstraintIndexFolder<\/strong> paths in the following registry key:\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Search\\Microsoft.Windows.Search_cw5n1h2txyewy\\AppsConstraintIndex<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>The above paths are valid for Windows 10 v21H2.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Enable Content Indexing for &#8220;Immersivecontrolpanel&#8221; Folder<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Note: This step is not required if you&#8217;re running Windows 10 v1903 or higher. The latest versions of Windows 10 don&#8217;t use this folder.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the following folder in File Explorer:\n<pre>C:\\Users\\%username%\\AppData\\Local\\Packages\\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3625\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/search-settings-empty-3-1.png\" alt=\"settings search no results found\" width=\"650\" height=\"240\" \/><br \/>\nThe above folder contains the XML files used by the modern Settings page. If these XML files are missing or their contents are not indexed, searching through the Settings page (<kbd>WinKey<\/kbd> + <kbd>i<\/kbd>) would return no results. So, let&#8217;s index this folder and its sub-folders and files.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click <code>LocalState<\/code> and click Properties. Click Advanced.<\/li>\n<li>In the Advanced Attributes dialog, enable the option\u00a0<strong>Allow files in this folder to have contents indexed in addition to file properties<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3626\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/search-settings-empty-1.png\" alt=\"settings search no results found\" width=\"650\" height=\"341\" \/><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click OK, and apply changes to all sub-directories by selecting the option <i>Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files<\/i> when prompted. <em>If the checkbox is already enabled, uncheck the option and click OK. Then enable it back and click OK.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Wait for some time for the search index to crawl files in the sub-folders. <em>If it still doesn&#8217;t help, open Indexing Options in Control Panel, click the Advanced tab, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/reset-rebuild-windows-search-index-fix-problems\/\">rebuild the search index<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3624\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/search-settings-empty-4.png\" alt=\"settings search no results found\" width=\"650\" height=\"236\" \/><br \/>\n<em>As a side note, to access &#8220;Accounts,&#8221; you&#8217;d simply click Accounts on the main Settings page. The screenshots are for illustration.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>That&#8217;s it!
