Universal Apps store their settings in per-app registry hives, and resetting the app is probably the only way you can clear the settings.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Reset or Repair a Windows 10\/11 App<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Windows 10<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Open Settings (<kbd>Win<\/kbd> + <kbd>i<\/kbd>) and search for, and launch Apps &amp; Features.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3533\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/reset-apps-windows-10.png\" alt=\"reset apps windows 10\" width=\"650\" height=\"642\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select the app which you want to reset, click the <b>Advanced options<\/b> link, and click <b>Reset<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3534\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/reset-apps-windows-10-2.png\" alt=\"reset apps windows 10\" width=\"650\" height=\"348\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Windows 11<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Windows 11, you&#8217;ll see a different screen. You need to click on the More icon (with three dots) and click &#8220;Advanced options&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26913\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w11-reset-repair-app.png\" alt=\"reset repair app apps &amp; features windows 11\" width=\"735\" height=\"486\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the resulting page, click Repair and then Reset.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26912\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/w11-reset-repair-app-2.png\" alt=\"reset repair app apps &amp; features windows 11\" width=\"705\" height=\"309\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Note that some inbox apps can&#8217;t be uninstalled via this page.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This clears the settings used by the app, including stored credentials for that app (or service) if it uses one.<\/p>\n<h3>Reset apps using PowerShell<\/h3>\n<p>Starting with Insider Preview build 20175 and higher, Windows 10\/11 now includes the new <code>Reset-AppXPackage<\/code> PowerShell cmdlet that can reset any UWP app. Here&#8217;s the syntax:<\/p>\n<h4>Reset a single app<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Open PowerShell and run this command to view the list of app names:\n<pre>Get-AppxPackage | Select name<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Copy the app name (e.g., <code>Microsoft.Windows.Photos<\/code>) from the list, that you want to reset.<\/li>\n<li>Run the following command to reset that app:\n<pre>Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Photos\u00a0| Reset-AppxPackage<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This resets the Photos app.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/reinstall-photos-app-windows-10\/\">How to Reinstall the Photos App in Windows 10\/11<\/a><\/div>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> If you run the above <code>Reset-AppXPackage<\/code> command in Windows 10 builds earlier than 20175, the following error would occur:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Reset-AppXPackage : The term 'Reset-AppXPackage' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program.
