It&#8217;s a useful option to custom scan a specific file\/folder\/drive. However, if you want to remove the option to declutter the right-click menu, this article tells you how.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Scan with Microsoft Defender&#8230;&#8221; option is powered by the module C:\\Program Files\\Windows Defender\\shellext.dll. You can block this shell extension via the registry.<\/p>\n<h2>Remove &#8220;Scan with Microsoft Defender&#8221; Context Menu Option<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Start the Registry Editor (<code>regedit.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>Go to the following key:\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Shell Extensions\\Blocked\r\n\r\nor\r\n\r\nHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Shell Extensions\\Blocked<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>In the right pane, create a new String value (REG_SZ)<\/li>\n<li>Name the REG_SZ value as <code><strong>{09A47860-11B0-4DA5-AFA5-26D86198A780}<\/strong><\/code>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/block_defender_shellext.png\" alt=\"remove &quot;scan with microsoft defender&quot; shell extension blocked\" width=\"650\" height=\"168\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-34350\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> If you made the changes in HKEY_CURRENT_USER, it will affect only on the current user account.
