(or)<\/li>\n<li>Select a file, and click the Email button in the File Explorer ribbon under the Share tab. (or)<\/li>\n<li>Clicking on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/snipping-tool-error-snip-not-sent-sending-snip-email\/\">Send snip<\/a> (email recipient) button in the Snipping Tool. (or)<\/li>\n<li>From your Contacts folder, right-click a contact, click Action, and click Send E-mail.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3255\" style=\"font-size: inherit;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/nomail2.png\" alt=\"no email program associated\" width=\"482\" height=\"178\" border=\"1\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Also, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/fix-send-page-by-e-mail-grayed-internet-explorer\/\">Page by e-mail&#8230; and Link by e-mail<\/a> options in Internet Explorer&#8217;s File menu may be grayed out.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is the email client already installed?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you have a mail client installed but still get the above error or a variation of the above error, such as the following:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client.<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3254\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/nomail1.png\" alt=\"no email program associated\" width=\"468\" height=\"178\" border=\"1\" \/><br \/>\n.. you need to reset the default mail client to resolve the issue.<\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>In order for the Send To mail function to work, you&#8217;ll need to have a desktop mail client with simple-MAPI or MAPI support, like Microsoft Office Outlook, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/register-thunderbird-portable-with-default-apps\/\">Mozilla Thunderbird<\/a>, Windows Live Mail (part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-essentials-offline-installer-download-links\/\">Windows Essentials<\/a> 2012), etc., installed in the system.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the Send To mail feature won&#8217;t work with web-based emails.<\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\">\n<h4>Workaround<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-4110\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sendto-share-file-0.png\" alt=\"share or attach files to mail app\" width=\"219\" height=\"210\" \/>If you&#8217;re using the Mail app in Windows, you can use the &#8220;Share&#8221; feature in the File Explorer ribbon command to quickly attach any number of files to the New mail message window automatically in the Mail app. This feature is a great time-saver.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, check out the post: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/send-file-attachments-email-using-mail-app-file-explorer-windows-10\/\">How to Send Attachments to Email Using Mail App and File Explorer in Windows 10\/11<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Solution: Reset your default mail client<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Windows 10 and 11<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open Settings \u2192 Apps \u2192 Default Apps.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26921\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/thunderbirdportable-default-apps.png\" alt=\"thunderbird portable add to default apps\" width=\"662\" height=\"725\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Select your email program (even if it&#8217;s showing as the default) from the list to set it as default.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Windows 8 and earlier<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open Control Panel, Programs, Default Programs.<\/li>\n<li>Click Set program access and computer defaults<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3256\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/nomail3.png\" alt=\"no email program associated\" width=\"460\" height=\"293\" border=\"1\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Under Choose a default e-mail program:, select your email client and click OK.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3257\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/nomail4.png\" alt=\"no email program associated\" width=\"551\" height=\"241\" border=\"1\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Also, click the first option in the list, which is <b>Set your default programs<\/b> and reset your mail client there, <u>in addition<\/u> to the above steps.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3260\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/nomail8.png\" alt=\"no email program associated\" width=\"600\" height=\"570\" border=\"1\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This resets your default mail client settings.<\/p>\n<h4>Using the Registry Editor<\/h4>\n<p>If the above steps do not work for some reason, start the Registry Editor (<code>regedit.exe<\/code>) and go to the following branches:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Clients\\Mail\r\nHKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Clients\\Mail<\/pre>\n<p>Set the <code>(default)<\/code> value data accordingly. In this example, we set the <code>(default)<\/code> value data to <code>Microsoft Outlook<\/code>.<\/p>\n<p>Please make sure that the value you mention is <u>exactly the same<\/u> as the mail client subkey name. Here, we have a subkey named <code>Microsoft Outlook<\/code>, and hence we set the <code>(default)<\/code> value data to <code>Microsoft Outlook<\/code>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3258\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/nomail6.png\" alt=\"no email program associated\" width=\"555\" height=\"203\" border=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/snipping-tool-error-snip-not-sent-sending-snip-email\/\">Snipping Tool Error \u201cThe snip could not be sent\u201d Sending Snip to Email<\/a><\/div>\n<p>That should fix the problem.
