In some cases, you&#8217;ll see the &#8220;HAL INITIALIZATION FAILED&#8221; or other blue screen errors at startup.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>You can undo the changes you made in msconfig.exe via Windows RE.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1: Boot into Windows RE<\/h3>\n<p>After three unsuccessful boot attempts, Windows will allow you to load the Windows Recovery Environment (RE). If not, you can use a bootable USB <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-iso-to-usb-dvd-tool-bootable-media\/\">Windows setup disk<\/a> to enter Windows RE.<\/p>\n<p>In Windows RE, click Troubleshoot \u2192 Advanced Options \u2192 Command Prompt.<\/p>\n<p><em>For more information, see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/access-windows-recovery-environment\/\">How to access Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr>\n<h3>Step 2: Fix the BCD<\/h3>\n<p>To revert the changes you made in the MSCONFIG &#8220;Advanced Boot Options&#8221; dialog, run these commands:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">bcdedit \/deletevalue {default} numproc\nbcdedit \/deletevalue {default} truncatememory\nbcdedit \/deletevalue {default} usefirmwarepcisettings<\/pre>\n<p>Press Enter after typing each command.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> You should see the message &#8220;The operation completed successfully.&#8221; for each command.<\/p>\n<p>The above commands will undo your faulty MSCONFIG Advanced Boot Options settings.<\/p>\n<p>To restart the computer, run the following:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">wpeutil reboot<\/pre>\n<p>See if you&#8217;re able to start Windows normally.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After changing the &#8220;Number of processors&#8221;, &#8220;Maximum Memory&#8221;, &#8220;PCI Lock&#8221; settings in the MSCONFIG Advanced Boot Options dialog, Windows may not start correctly.
