{"id":3220,"date":"2016-06-07T10:16:34","date_gmt":"2016-06-07T04:46:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/198.58.113.91\/blog\/?p=3220"},"modified":"2022-05-17T18:34:12","modified_gmt":"2022-05-17T13:04:12","slug":"reset-wordpad-notepad-settings-defaults","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/reset-wordpad-notepad-settings-defaults\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Reset Notepad and WordPad to Default"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;ve changed the default font settings and other options in WordPad or Notepad and want to revert back to Windows default values, this post tells you how to do that.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Reset Notepad settings<\/h2>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve altered the default Notepad font or encoding (using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/set-default-encoding-notepad-ansi-utf-8\/\">iDefaultEncoding<\/a> registry value), the margin, and header settings incorrectly, you can quickly reset them to the default values.<\/p>\n<p>The settings for Notepad are stored in this registry key:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Notepad<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3226\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/notepad_reset.png\" alt=\"Notepad reset settings\" width=\"600\" height=\"434\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Right-click on the key and choose Delete.<\/p>\n<p>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/restore-old-classic-notepad-windows\/\">Notepad Store app<\/a> (UWP) is bundled by default on Windows 11. In that case, you need to access &#8220;Settings&#8221; \u2192 &#8220;Apps&#8221; \u2192 &#8220;Apps &amp; Features&#8221; in order to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/reset-app-settings-windows-10\/\">reset the new\/modern Notepad<\/a> settings.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26686\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/notepad-uwp-app-reset.png\" alt=\"reset notepad store app\" width=\"516\" height=\"513\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Reset WordPad Settings<\/h2>\n<p>To reset WordPad settings, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<p>Start Regedit.exe and go to:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Applets\\Wordpad<\/pre>\n<p>The <code>Options<\/code> subkey stores the Wordpad settings you configured.
