Failure will not be ignored: A rollback will be initiated after all the operations in the installer queue are completed; installer is reliable[gle=0x80004005]<\/pre>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>The above error referencing &#8220;<code>Name: cmiadapter.dll ErrorCode: 80041002<\/code>&#8221; is caused by a corrupt WMI repository.<\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve the WMI error <code>80041002<\/code> (&#8220;WBEM_E_NOT_FOUND&#8221;), repair, reset, or rebuild the WMI repository. Follow the method(s) below.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Note:<\/strong> To follow the instructions below, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/open-elevated-command-prompt-windows\/\">admin Command Prompt<\/a> should be enough in most cases. However, if you have an antimalware service (e.g., Malwarebytes) that depends on the WMI service, stopping WMI is difficult. In that case, you need to use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/run-program-as-trustedinstaller-locked-registry-keys-files\/\">TrustedInstaller Command Prompt<\/a> to complete the steps successfully.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Step 1) Repair the WMI repository<\/h3>\n<p>Open an admin Command Prompt window.<\/p>\n<p>In the Command Prompt window , run the following commands to backup and repair the repository:<\/p>\n<pre>winmgmt \/backup c:\\wmirepository.bak\nwinmgmt \/salvagerepository\n<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Restart<\/strong> Windows.\u00a0See if you&#8217;re able to install updates. If that doesn&#8217;t help, proceed to Step 2 below.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Step 2) Reset the WMI Repository<\/h3>\n<p>Open an admin Command Prompt, and run the following commands.<\/p>\n<pre>winmgmt \/resetrepository<\/pre>\n<p>Restart Windows. If the problem persists, proceed to Step 3 below.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Step 3) Rebuild the WMI repository Completely<\/h3>\n<p>Open an admin Command Prompt, and run the following commands.<\/p>\n<pre>sc config winmgmt start= disabled\n\nnet stop winmgmt<\/pre>\n<p><em>(the blank space after <strong>start=<\/strong> is intentional)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>(Note: Stopping WMI will also stop the other services that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-11-default-services-configuration\/\">depend<\/a> upon WMI. Please attempt the procedure via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/start-windows-11-or-10-safe-mode\/\">Safe mode<\/a> if the WMI service can\u2019t be stopped. Antimalware service(s) that depend upon WMI may not stop and thus prevent WMI from stopping. In that case, the Safe mode should help.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Run the following commands to rebuild the repository:<\/p>\n<pre>\nCD \/D %WINDIR%\\System32\\Wbem\\Repository\nDEL \/F \/Q \/S %WINDIR%\\System32\\Wbem\\Repository\\*.*\nCD \/D %WINDIR%\\System32\\Wbem\nfor \/f %s in ('dir \/b *.dll') do regsvr32 \/s %s\nwmiprvse \/regserver\nsc config winmgmt start= auto\nnet start winmgmt\nfor \/f %s in ('dir \/b *.mof') do mofcomp %s\nfor \/f %s in ('dir \/b *.mfl') do mofcomp %s\ndism \/online \/cleanup-image \/restorehealth\nsfc \/scannow\n<\/pre>\n<p>Launch <strong>wmimgmt.msc<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Right-click &#8220;WMI Control (Local)&#8221; and click Properties.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-30091\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/wmimgmt-rebuild.png\" alt=\"wmi repository rebuild wmimgmt\" width=\"550\" height=\"310\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The above step recreates the repository, which might take a minute or so.<\/p>\n<p>Restart Windows.<\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\">\nIf you still get the error 0x80041002 when installing an update, try one of the following:<\/p>\n<p>1) Copy the %WINDIR%\\System32\\Wbem\\Repository folder from another computer. You may need to stop the WMI service first.<\/p>\n<p>or<\/p>\n<p>2) Repair install Windows 10\/11 using an in-place upgrade.<\/p>\n<li>Download the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-10-iso-direct-download-mct-useragent\/\">Windows 10\/11 ISO<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Double-click the ISO to mount it to a drive letter.<\/li>\n<li>Run Setup.exe and complete the repair.<\/li>\n<\/div>\n<p>You should now be able to install Windows Updates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After being unable to install Windows Updates, the error code 80041002 may have been recorded when you checked the CBS logs.
