Here&#8217;s the complete error message:<!--more--><\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Windows could not start the Remote Desktop Services service on Local Computer.\n\nError 126: The specified module could not be found.<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-31637\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/remote-desktop-service-error-126.jpg\" alt=\"remote desktop service error 126\" width=\"750\" height=\"351\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>The error occurs if the file termsrv.dll is missing or corrupted. Another reason could be that the Remote Desktop Services ServiceDLL may be pointing to a third-party module, such as &#8220;<code>%ProgramFiles%\\RDP Wrapper\\rdpwrap.dll<\/code>&#8221; (&#8220;RDP Wrapper.&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>The RDP Wrapper&#8217;s .msi file is broken. It doesn&#8217;t install or uninstall the app correctly. The following error is shown:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75746\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/rdpwrap-uninstall-error.png\" alt=\"RDP Wrapper install error\" width=\"395\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As a result, the uninstallation procedure is not proper. The entry remains in the program listing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75748\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/rdpwrap-uninstall.png\" alt=\"RDP Wrapper install error\" width=\"749\" height=\"419\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve the Remote Desktop Services (&#8220;TermService&#8221;) service error 126, follow one of the methods below:<\/p>\n<h3>Option 1: Uninstall &#8220;RDP Wrapper&#8221; properly<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Download the RDP Wrapper setup <strong>.zip<\/strong> file from the following link:\n<pre>https:\/\/github.com\/stascorp\/rdpwrap\/releases<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Unzip and extract the archive to a folder.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75749\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/rdpwrap-uninstall-batch.png\" alt=\"RDP Wrapper cleanly uninstall\" width=\"751\" height=\"337\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Run <strong>Uninstall.bat<\/strong>, and click Yes when asked for elevation consent.<\/li>\n<li>Download <a href=\"https:\/\/download.microsoft.com\/download\/7\/E\/9\/7E9188C0-2511-4B01-8B4E-0A641EC2F600\/MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta.diagcab\">MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta.diagcab<\/a> from Microsoft. Click <strong>Next<\/strong>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-74732\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/ms-program-uninstall-troubleshooter-1.png\" alt=\"microsoft program install uninstall troubleshooter\" width=\"571\" height=\"440\" \/><\/li>\n<li>In the next screen, click &#8220;Uninstalling&#8221;.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-74731\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/ms-program-uninstall-troubleshooter-2.png\" alt=\"microsoft program install uninstall troubleshooter\" width=\"571\" height=\"440\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Select &#8220;RDP Wrapper Library&#8221;, and click Next.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75750\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/rdpwrap-uninstall-diagcab.png\" alt=\"rdp wrapper clean uninstall using diagcab\" width=\"569\" height=\"437\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Yes, try uninstall<\/strong>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75751\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/rdpwrap-uninstall-diagcab-2.png\" alt=\"rdp wrapper clean uninstall using diagcab\" width=\"571\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This cleanly uninstalls &#8220;RDP Wrapper&#8221; and restores the original <code>ServiceDLL<\/code> entry in the registry.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>To delete the &#8220;RDP Wrapper&#8221; entry in Apps &amp; Features or Programs and Features, open an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/open-elevated-command-prompt-windows\/\">admin Command Prompt<\/a>, and run this command:\n<pre class=\"cmd\">reg delete \"HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\WOW6432Node\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Uninstall\\{37EA5771-3352-4A52-9FAC-9297331DAEBD}\" \/f<\/pre>\n<p>Press Enter.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Restart<\/strong> Windows.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>That&#8217;s it. Remote Desktop Services should now start correctly.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Option 2: Fix the ServiceDLL registry entry manually<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <code>Regedit.exe<\/code> and go to:\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\TermService\\Parameters<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Double-click <strong>ServiceDll<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Set its data to <strong>%SystemRoot%\\System32\\termsrv.dll<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(Also, ensure that the value type is <strong>REG_EXPAND_SZ<\/strong> instead of REG_SZ.)<\/em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-31638\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/remote-desktop-servicedll.png\" alt=\"remote desktop service error 126\" width=\"698\" height=\"171\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Check if termsrv.dll exists<\/h4>\n<p>Additionally, make sure that the module <strong>termsrv.dll<\/strong> exists in the <code>C:\\Windows\\System32<\/code> directory.<\/p>\n<p>You may check the integrity of the file by running the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:<\/p>\n<pre>sfc \/scanfile=C:\\Windows\\System32\\termsrv.dll<\/pre>\n<p>If the above file is missing and Sfc cannot repair it, run the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/repair-windows-10-using-dism-sfc\/\">Dism command<\/a>.
