Attempting to start the service results in error <strong>193 0xC1<\/strong> Let&#8217;s see how to fix this error.<!--more--><\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Windows could not start the WLAN AutoConfig service on Local Computer. \n\nError 193: 0xc1<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-31286\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/wlansvc-error-193.png\" alt=\"wlansvc error 193 0xc1\" width=\"696\" height=\"249\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The same error occurs when you start the service from command-line:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">The WLAN AutoConfig service could not be started.\n\nA system error has occurred.\n\nSystem error 193 has occurred.\n\n*** is not a valid Win32 application.<\/pre>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>This above error occurs if the file WLanSvc.dll has become corrupted. Restoring a fresh copy from the source should resolve the issue.<\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve the WLAN AutoConfig service startup error, restore missing system files, including WLanSvc.dll.<\/p>\n<h3>1) Repair wlansvc.dll using SFC<\/h3>\n<p>Open an admin Command Prompt and run:<\/p>\n<pre>sfc \/scannow<\/pre>\n<p>and<\/p>\n<pre>sfc \/scanfile=c:\\windows\\system32\\wlansvc.dll<\/pre>\n<p>You should see the following message in the output if the file was successfully restored.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-31287\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/wlansvc-error-193-sfc-scanfile.png\" alt=\"wlansvc error 193 0xc1 - sfc scanfile\" width=\"699\" height=\"236\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Note:<\/strong> The <code>sfc \/scannow<\/code> command scans and repairs for all system files, whereas the above command <code>sfc \/scanfile<\/code> scans and repairs a specific file.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\">\n<h4>SFC can&#8217;t repair the file?<\/h4>\n<p>In some cases, SFC can&#8217;t repair the file. This happens if the file in the component store is also corrupted. In that case, SFC reports the following error:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.<\/pre>\n<p>And the following lines are logged in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/collect-diagnostic-logs-windows\/\">CBS.log<\/a> file:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">[SR] Could not reproject corrupted file \\??\\C:\\windows\\System32\\\\wlansvc.dll; source file in store is also corrupted\n[SR] Verify complete\n[SR] Repairing 1 components\n[SR] Beginning Verify and Repair transaction\n[SR] Cannot repair member file [l:11]'wlansvc.dll' of Microsoft-Windows-OneCoreUAP-Wlansvc, version 10.0.19041.2193, arch amd64, nonSxS, pkt {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35} in the store, file is missing\n[SR] Cannot repair member file [l:11]'wlansvc.dll' of Microsoft-Windows-OneCoreUAP-Wlansvc, version 10.0.19041.2193, arch amd64, nonSxS, pkt {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35} in the store, file is missing<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<hr>\n<h3>2) Repair wlansvc.dll using\u00a0DISM and\u00a0SFC<\/h3>\n<p>If SFC can&#8217;t repair the file, run DISM. For more information about the <code>DISM \/RestoreHealth<\/code> command-line, check out the article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/repair-windows-10-using-dism-sfc\/\">Repair Windows 10\/11 System Files Using DISM and SFC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/notepad-uwp-icon.png\" alt=\"new notepad icon\" width=\"24\" height=\"24\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-26650\" \/><strong>Important:<\/strong> Make sure you&#8217;re connected to the internet. Use another internet connection source (e.g., ethernet or mobile tethering) if your WLAN is inoperable. Then, follow the steps below.<\/p>\n<p>From Admin Command Prompt, run:<\/p>\n<pre>DISM.exe \/Online \/Cleanup-image \/Restorehealth<\/pre>\n<p>Once DISM completes, run:<\/p>\n<pre>sfc \/scannow<\/pre>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>3) Download WLanSvc.dll from Microsoft<\/h3>\n<p>If the above methods don&#8217;t help, download a copy of wlansvc.dll from Microsoft.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>First, find your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/find-windows-10-build-version-edition-bit\/\">OS Version<\/a> and Build by running <code>winver.exe<\/code> or <code>ver<\/code> (in Command Prompt).<\/li>\n<li>Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/download-missing-system-files-dll-exe-sys-from-microsoft-site\/\">WinBIndex<\/a> portal and download the right version of <code>wlansvc.dll<\/code> for your computer. So, after downloading the the file, rename it to <code>Wlansvc.dll<\/code>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Next, copy <code>Wlansvc.dll<\/code> to the System32 directory. Follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open a TrustedInstaller Command Prompt (See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/run-program-as-trustedinstaller-locked-registry-keys-files\/\">Instructions here<\/a>) using AdvancedRun.<\/li>\n<li>Close AdvancedRun.<\/li>\n<li>In the TrustedInstaller Command Prompt, run the following command:\n<pre>copy \"c:\\users\\&lt;yourusername&gt;\\desktop\\wlansvc.dll\"\u00a0 \"c:\\windows\\system32\" \/y<\/pre>\n<p><em>(* Replace &lt;yourusername&gt; with your actual user account profile folder name. Also, if you&#8217;ve downloaded the file to a different location, use the correct path for the source file.)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Close the Command Prompt window.<\/li>\n<li>Open the Services MMC Services.msc, right-click WLAN AutoConfig, and click Start.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The WLAN AutoConfig service should successfully start!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You may not be able to connect to Wi-Fi networks on your system because the WLAN AutoConfig (WLansvc) service fails to start.
