Windows could not start the Windows Audio service on Local Computer. \r\n\r\nError 0x80070005: Access is denied.<\/pre>\n

The above error occurs if the permission entries for the following registry key are incorrect:<\/p>\n
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\MMDevices<\/pre>\n
As a result, audio capabilities and the volume control icon are disabled on your computer.<\/p>\n
\nA Quick Workaround<\/strong><\/p>\n
Adding “NT AUTHORITY\\LOCAL SERVICE<\/code>” to the Administrators group using the following command from Admin Command Prompt instantly resolves the issue. But use it as a temporary workaround. It’s not recommended due to security reasons.<\/p>\n
net localgroup Administrators \/add localservice<\/pre>\n
To revert the changes, run the following:<\/p>\n
net localgroup Administrators \/delete localservice<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n
To properly fix the Audio Service Error 0x80070005<\/code>, follow the steps below.<\/p>\n
Resolution<\/h2>\n
To fix the Windows Audio service error 0x80070005<\/code>, follow these steps:<\/p>\n
    \n
  1. Start the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe<\/code>) as TrustedInstaller<\/a> using the AdvancedRun tool.<\/li>\n
  2. Close the AdvancedRun tool.<\/li>\n
  3. In the Registry Editor, go to the following branch:\n
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\MMDevices<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
  4. Right-click MMDevices<\/strong> and click Permissions.<\/li>\n
  5. In the Permissions dialog, click Advanced.
    \n\"audiosrv<\/li>\n
  6. This opens the Advanced Security settings dialog.\n
