If you right-click on the desktop and click Personalize, you may get the following error:<!--more--><\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">ms-settings:personalization\n\nThis file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install an app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps Settings page.<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-30209\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/settings-app-error.png\" alt=\"ms-settings: error - reset and reinstall the settings app\" width=\"703\" height=\"175\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also, none of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-10-ms-settings-pages-using-ms-settings-shortcuts\/\">ms-settings:<\/a> command-line may work.<\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve the issue, reset and repair the Settings app using PowerShell.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Note:<\/strong> The following commands require the &#8220;Capability Access Manager&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-11-default-services-configuration\/\">Service<\/a> to be set to Manual.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>1) Reset the Settings app<\/h3>\n<p><em>(The following command won&#8217;t work on Windows 10. It shows the error &#8220;The term &#8216;Reset-AppxPackage&#8217; is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet&#8221; on Windows 10.)<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch PowerShell as administrator.<\/li>\n<li>Run the following command to reset the Settings app:\n<pre>Get-AppxPackage windows.immersivecontrolpanel | Reset-AppxPackage<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-30216\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/reset-settings-ps.png\" alt=\"ms-settings: error - reset and reinstall the settings app\" width=\"790\" height=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/reset-settings-ps.png 790w, https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/reset-settings-ps-768x97.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>2) Reinstall the Settings app<\/h3>\n<p>If the Settings app still doesn&#8217;t open, reinstall Settings using the following command in Windows 10 and 11:<\/p>\n<pre>Get-AppXPackage windows.immersivecontrolpanel -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register \"$($_.InstallLocation)\\AppXManifest.xml\" -Verbose}<\/pre>\n<p>That should resolve the issue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When you attempt to open the Settings app, it may show the logo and then automatically close.
