{"id":300,"date":"2008-05-26T19:20:11","date_gmt":"2008-05-26T13:50:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/198.58.113.91\/blog\/?p=300"},"modified":"2021-05-31T16:58:49","modified_gmt":"2021-05-31T11:28:49","slug":"system-restore-error-0x8007007b-windows-7-vista","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/system-restore-error-0x8007007b-windows-7-vista\/","title":{"rendered":"[Fix] System Restore Error 0x8007007B in Windows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you start the System Restore utility in Windows, the following error message may be displayed:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">There was an unexpected error:\r\n\r\nThe filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.\r\n(0x8007007B)\r\n\r\nSystem Restore will now close.<\/pre>\n<p>The same error might occur when running Windows CompletePC Backup.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>This problem affects especially the OEM systems that have a faulty image. This error is caused by faulty imaging by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) that results in the presence of an invalid volume. To see if this is the problem, go to System in Control Panel and open System Protection. There will be two volumes shown, one of which is selected and named \u201cMissing.\u201d Selecting <code>C:\\<\/code> and deselecting \u201cMissing\u201d solves the problem.<\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>Click Start, type <code>SystemPropertiesProtection.exe<\/code>. This opens the System Restore Properties dialog.<\/p>\n<p>You may see two <code>C:<\/code> drives in the listing with the <b>same <\/b>Volume label (see figure below).
