To turn on System Restore, contact your system administrator.<\/i><\/b>&#8221; appears.<\/p>\n<p>Also when you open <b>System Properties<\/b> and select the <b>System Protection<\/b> tab, the <b>Create<\/b> button may be grayed out, and the following message is displayed.<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b><i>Restore point creation disabled by Group Policy<\/i><\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3075\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/06\/srpolicy.png\" alt=\"System Restore has been turned off by your system administrator\" width=\"412\" height=\"468\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This happens if the <b>Turn off Configuration<\/b> and <b>Turn off System Restore<\/b> Policies are enabled in your system, either using Group Policy or through registry edit. For standalone Windows client systems, use these steps to remove the System Restore Policies.<\/p>\n<h2>Using the Group Policy Editor (for Pro Editions of Windows)<\/h2>\n<p>If your edition of Windows includes the Group Policy Editor snap-in (gpedit.msc), follow these steps:<\/p>\n<p>1. Click Start, type <b>gpedit.msc<\/b> and press ENTER<\/p>\n<p>2. Go to the following branch:<\/p>\n<pre>Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | System | System Restore<\/pre>\n<p>3. Double-click <b>Turn off Configuration<\/b> and set it to Not configured.<\/p>\n<p>4. Double-click <b>Turn off System Restore<\/b> and set it to Not configured.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><b>Important:<\/b> If the above settings are already set to Not configured, set them to <b>Enabled<\/b> and click Apply. Then revert back the setting to <b>Not configured<\/b>, and click Apply<b>, <\/b>OK. This clears the equivalent registry-based Policies if applied earlier.<\/p>\n<p>4. Exit the Group Policy Editor.<\/p>\n<h2>Using the Registry Editor<\/h2>\n<p>1. Start the Registry Editor (<b>regedit.exe<\/b>)<\/p>\n<p>2. Navigate to the following key:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\SystemRestore<\/pre>\n<p>3. In the right-pane, delete the values named <b>DisableSR<\/b> and <b>DisableConfig<\/b><\/p>\n<p>4.
