{"id":2904,"date":"2016-04-14T03:28:18","date_gmt":"2016-04-13T21:58:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/198.58.113.91\/blog\/?p=2904"},"modified":"2021-05-31T13:49:06","modified_gmt":"2021-05-31T08:19:06","slug":"gpedit-resource-string-requireprivatestoreonly-windowsstore-admx-kb3147458","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/gpedit-resource-string-requireprivatestoreonly-windowsstore-admx-kb3147458\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Resource $(string.RequirePrivateStoreOnly)&#8221; Error After installing KB3147458"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After installing the April Cumulative Update KB3147458, the following error may pop up when opening the Group Policy Editor.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>Resource &#8216;$(string.RequirePrivateStoreOnly)&#8217; referenced in attribute displayName could not be found.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>File C:\\WINDOWS\\PolicyDefinitions\\WindowsStore.admx, line 140, column 9<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Although dismissing the error messages (occurs twice) should allow you to use the Group Policy Editor, the &#8220;Store&#8221; category may be missing from Windows Components, under Computer Configuration and User Configuration.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This is probably because the update added a new Policy setting into the WindowsStore.admx file, but didn&#8217;t add the corresponding string ID\u00a0in WindowsStore.adml. Microsoft is aware of this issue, as John Wink [MSFT] is following up <a href=\"http:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/forum\/windows_10-update\/microsoft-wants-to-know-anyone-seeing-issues-with\/8cc2af67-d1ef-43d8-8658-b5c5a69be530\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KB3147458 issues<\/a>; hopefully, this little glitch will be fixed soon. Until then, here is how to prevent the error from occurring when opening the Group Policy Editor.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>First, backup the file <code>C:\\Windows\\PolicyDefinitions\\WindowsStore.admx<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>Open a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/open-elevated-command-prompt-windows\/\">Command Prompt (Admin)<\/a> window.<\/li>\n<li>Type the following commands one by one and press ENTER after each command:\n<pre>takeown \/f C:\\Windows\\PolicyDefinitions\\WindowsStore.admx\r\n\r\nicacls C:\\Windows\\PolicyDefinitions\\WindowsStore.admx \/grant Administrators:F\r\n\r\nnotepad C:\\Windows\\PolicyDefinitions\\WindowsStore.admx<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>In Notepad, go to Line 133 in the file (Ctrl + G)<\/li>\n<li>Select the contents from line 133 to 166 (including), delete those lines, and save the file.<\/li>\n<li>Then type the following command to restore ownership back to TrustedInstaller\n<pre>icacls C:\\Windows\\PolicyDefinitions\\WindowsStore.admx \/setowner \"NT Service\\TrustedInstaller\"<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You should no longer get the error when launching Group Policy Editor.
