No worries! We have readymade .reg files to automate the task.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2>Pin Google Drive to Explorer Navigation pane<\/h2>\n<p>To add Google Drive to the navigation pane, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/PinGoogleDrive.zip\">PinGoogleDrive.zip<\/a>, unzip, and extract the contents to the desktop.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27093\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/pin-google-drive-reg.png\" alt=\"pin google drive explorer nav pane\" width=\"572\" height=\"152\" \/><br \/>\nThere are three files enclosed inside the archive:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><code>pin_google_drive_windows_32_bit.reg<\/code> \u2192 This is for Windows 32-bit systems<\/li>\n<li><code>pin_google_drive_windows_64_bit.reg<\/code> \u2192 This is for Windows 64-bit systems<\/li>\n<li><code>unpin_google_drive.reg<\/code> \u2192 This is an &#8220;undo&#8221; file, for both Windows 32-bit and 64-bit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Choose the appropriate registry file for your computer.<\/li>\n<li>Edit the registry file using Notepad.<\/li>\n<li>Replace the paths for <code>GoogleDriveFS.exe<\/code> and &#8220;<code>TargetFolderPath<\/code>&#8220;. Be sure to maintain the double slashes for file\/folder paths.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27097\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/pin-google-drive-edit-reg-notepad.png\" alt=\"pin google drive explorer nav pane\" width=\"750\" height=\"468\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\">\n<h4>TargetFolderPath<\/h4>\n<p><em>If you&#8217;re using the &#8220;Stream files&#8221; mode, you can choose between the &#8220;Folder&#8221; and &#8220;Drive letter&#8221; options in Google Drive (&#8220;Streaming location&#8221;) preferences.<\/em><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27102\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/google-drive-streaming-location.png\" alt=\"google drive folder streaming or drive letter\" width=\"630\" height=\"259\" \/><\/p>\n<h5>Streaming Option &#8211; Folder or Drive letter?<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Choosing &#8220;Drive letter&#8221; would create a virtual drive letter on the computer. In that case, point <code>TargetFolderPath<\/code> to Google Drive&#8217;s drive-letter ( e.g., <code>G:\\<\/code> ). In the REG file, you need to add double slashes in the path &#8212; e.g., &#8220;<code>TargetFolderPath\"=\"G:\\\\<\/code>&#8220;.<\/li>\n<li>On the other hand, choosing &#8220;Folder&#8221; would create the &#8220;Google Drive Streaming&#8221; folder here \u2192 &#8220;<code>C:\\\\Users\\\\YOUR_USER_NAME\\\\Google Drive Streaming\\\\My Drive<\/code>&#8220;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Mirror Option<\/h5>\n<p>Or, if you&#8217;ve enabled the &#8220;Mirror files&#8221; option in Google Drive preferences, assign the Google Drive store folder path for the <code>TargetFolderPath<\/code> value.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27101\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/google-drive-sync-options.png\" alt=\"google drive mirror option vs streaming option\" width=\"517\" height=\"360\" \/><br \/>\nBy default, the folder is located at &#8220;<code>C:\\\\Users\\\\YOUR_USER_NAME\\\\My Drive<\/code>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>GoogleDriveFS.exe Location<\/h4>\n<p>The Google Drive icon comes from the module <code>GoogleDriveFS.exe<\/code>. To quickly find the path for the current <code>GoogleDriveFS.exe<\/code> file, you can open a Command Prompt window and type the following command:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">reg.exe query \"HKLM\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Uninstall\\{6BBAE539-2232-434A-A4E5-9A33560C6283}\"  \/v InstallLocation<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27098\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/find-gdrive-exe-path.png\" alt=\"find current googledrivefs.exe path\" width=\"740\" height=\"194\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Alternately, you can search for the file using this command in Command Prompt (Cmd.exe):<\/p>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">dir \"%programfiles%\"\\googledrivefs.exe \/s \/a \/b<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> For Windows 64-bit, you also need to edit the paths under the &#8220;<code>WOW6432Node<\/code>&#8221; section of the file.<\/li>\n<li>Save the registry file.<\/li>\n<li>Double-click the Registry file to apply the settings to the registry.<\/li>\n<li>Close all instances of File Explorer and then open a folder.<\/li>\n<li>If the Google Drive icon is still not visible, log off and log back into your account.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You should see Google Drive Pinned as a separate item on the navigation pane.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27095\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/pin-google-drive-expl-pane.png\" alt=\"pin google drive explorer nav pane\" width=\"601\" height=\"340\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>If you decide to remove Google Drive from the navigation pane, run the undo REG file <code>unpin_google_drive.reg<\/code><\/em>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\">\n<h4>Stop automatic pinning of Google Drive to Quick Access (Optional)<\/h4>\n<p>Google Drive sync client automatically pins &#8220;Google Drive&#8221; to the Quick Access area at every start. Regardless of how many times you unpin it, the item will be added again. However, there is a piece of good news. Google Drive update released in August 2022 has provided an option to disable the auto-pinning of Google Drive to Quick Access.<\/p>\n<p>To stop the Google Drive sync client from automatically pinning its icon in the Quick Access area, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on the Google Drive notification icon.<\/li>\n<li>Click the gear icon in the upper right, and click Preferences.<\/li>\n<li>In the Preferences dialog, click the gear icon in the upper right.
