When you open the Date & time settings to change the time zone, the Time zone settings may be fully grayed out or missing on your Windows 11 computer. Let’s see how to resolve the issue.<\/p>\n

In some cases, the “Set time zone automatically” option may be enabled, but enabling the toggle button causes the following error:<\/p>\n

Your privacy settings blocked access to your location.\n\nIf you want to change these settings, go to Settings, Privacy, App permissions, Location.<\/pre>\n
\"time<\/p>\n
The above issue occurs if the Location services are disabled.<\/p>\n
Solution<\/h2>\n
To restore the time zone options in Settings, follow one of these methods:<\/p>\n
Method 1: Turn on Location services<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. Open Settings \u2192 Privacy & security \u2192 Location.<\/li>\n
  2. Enable the “Location Services” toggle switch.<\/li>\n
  3. Enable the “Let apps access your location” toggle switch.<\/li>\n
  4. Enable the toggle button for “Host process for Windows Services.”
    \n\"time<\/li>\n
  5. Now, open the Time zone settings page. The options should now be available.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
    If you think turning on Location services might breach your privacy, follow Method 2 or 3 below. Methods 2 & 3 don’t<\/strong> require the Location services to be enabled.<\/em><\/p>\n

    Method 2: Disable the “Auto Time Zone Updater” service<\/h3>\n
    If you don’t want the automatic time zone updates on your device and you want to set the time zone manually, here’s an option.<\/p>\n
      \n
    1. Right-click Start, and click Run.<\/li>\n
    2. Type <\/span>services.msc<\/code> and click OK.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Double-click the “<\/span>Auto Time Zone Updater” service<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. Set the service start type to “Disabled.”<\/span><\/li>\n
    5. Exit the Services console.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      The <\/span>“Auto Time Zone Updater” <\/span>(<\/span>tzautoupdate<\/code>) service, <\/span>when disabled, the manual time zone dropdown control is enabled automatically.<\/span><\/p>\n

      That’s it! You can have the Location services disabled but have the time zone manual selection dropdown box enabled.<\/p>\n
      Note: You can also use the tzutil.exe<\/code> console tool to set the time zone. Type tzutil \/?<\/code> in the Command Prompt to learn more about this tool.<\/em><\/p>\n

      Method 3: Set the Time Zone Using Classic Control Panel<\/h3>\n
      You can use the classic “Date and Time” applet Control Panel applet as a workaround.<\/p>\n
      You can launch it via the Control Panel or run timedate.cpl<\/code> via the Run dialog.<\/p>\n

      The classic applet works regardless of your Location privacy settings and “Auto Time Zone Updater” service status.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Method 4: Set the Time Zone Using PowerShell<\/h3>\n
      Start PowerShell (admin) and use the following command-line syntax:<\/p>\n
      Syntax:<\/strong><\/p>\n
      Set-TimeZone -Id \"YOUR TIME ZONE HERE\"<\/pre>\n
      You can get a list of time zones using the following command:<\/p>\n
      Get-TimeZone -ListAvailable<\/pre>\n
      Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n
      To set “GMT Standard Time” as the time zone, run this command:<\/p>\n
      Set-TimeZone -Id \"GMT Standard Time\"<\/pre>\n
      To set “India Standard Time” as the time zone, run this command:<\/p>\n
      Set-TimeZone -Id \"India Standard Time\"<\/pre>\n
