Let&#8217;s see how to resolve the issue.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27507\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/timezone-dimmed-0.png\" alt=\"time zone settings grayed out\" width=\"719\" height=\"556\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In some cases, the &#8220;Set time zone automatically&#8221; option may be enabled, but enabling the toggle button causes the following error:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Your privacy settings blocked access to your location.\n\nIf you want to change these settings, go to Settings, Privacy, App permissions, Location.<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27508\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/timezone-dimmed-1.png\" alt=\"time zone settings grayed out\" width=\"397\" height=\"205\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The above issue occurs if the Location services are disabled.<\/p>\n<h2>Solution<\/h2>\n<p>To restore the time zone options in Settings, follow one of these methods:<\/p>\n<h3>Method 1: Turn on Location services<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Open Settings \u2192 Privacy &amp; security \u2192 Location.<\/li>\n<li>Enable the &#8220;Location Services&#8221; toggle switch.<\/li>\n<li>Enable the &#8220;Let apps access your location&#8221; toggle switch.<\/li>\n<li>Enable the toggle button for &#8220;Host process for Windows Services.&#8221;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27509\" style=\"font-size: inherit;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/timezone-dimmed-2.png\" alt=\"time zone settings grayed out\" width=\"648\" height=\"189\" \/><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Now, open the Time zone settings page. The options should now be available.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>If you think turning on Location services might breach your privacy, follow Method 2 or 3 below. Methods 2 &amp; 3 <strong>don&#8217;t<\/strong> require the Location services to be enabled.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Method 2: Disable the &#8220;Auto Time Zone Updater&#8221; service<\/h3>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t want the automatic time zone updates on your device and you want to set the time zone manually, here&#8217;s an option.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Right-click Start, and click Run.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Type <\/span><code>services.msc<\/code><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"> and click OK.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Double-click the &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Auto Time Zone Updater&#8221; service<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Set the service start type to &#8220;Disabled.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Exit the Services console.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">The <\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">&#8220;Auto Time Zone Updater&#8221; <\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">(<\/span><code>tzautoupdate<\/code><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">) service, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">when disabled, the manual time zone dropdown control is enabled automatically.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27510\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/timezone-dimmed-3.png\" alt=\"time zone settings grayed out\" width=\"719\" height=\"556\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s it! You can have the Location services disabled but have the time zone manual selection dropdown box enabled.<\/p>\n<p><em>Note: You can also use the <code>tzutil.exe<\/code> console tool to set the time zone. Type <code>tzutil \/?<\/code> in the Command Prompt to learn more about this tool.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Method 3: Set the Time Zone Using Classic Control Panel<\/h3>\n<p>You can use the classic &#8220;Date and Time&#8221; applet Control Panel applet as a workaround.<\/p>\n<p>You can launch it via the Control Panel or run <code>timedate.cpl<\/code> via the Run dialog.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27511\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/timezone-dimmed-4.png\" alt=\"time zone settings grayed out\" width=\"508\" height=\"582\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The classic applet works regardless of your Location privacy settings and &#8220;<span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Auto Time Zone Updater&#8221; service status.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Method 4: Set the Time Zone Using PowerShell<\/h3>\n<p>Start PowerShell (admin) and use the following command-line syntax:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Syntax:<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre class=\"powershell\">Set-TimeZone -Id \"YOUR TIME ZONE HERE\"<\/pre>\n<p>You can get a list of time zones using the following command:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"powershell\">Get-TimeZone -ListAvailable<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To set &#8220;GMT Standard Time&#8221; as the time zone, run this command:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"powershell\">Set-TimeZone -Id \"GMT Standard Time\"<\/pre>\n<p>To set &#8220;India Standard Time&#8221; as the time zone, run this command:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"powershell\">Set-TimeZone -Id \"India Standard Time\"<\/pre>\n<p>I hope one of the above methods helped you set the correct time zone on your system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When you open the Date &amp; time settings to change the time zone, the Time zone settings may be fully grayed out or missing on your Windows 11 computer.
