{"id":27038,"date":"2022-08-08T23:08:00","date_gmt":"2022-08-08T17:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/198.58.113.91\/blog\/?p=27038"},"modified":"2022-09-01T22:51:26","modified_gmt":"2022-09-01T17:21:26","slug":"photos-open-print-pictures-instead-of-photos-app","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/photos-open-print-pictures-instead-of-photos-app\/","title":{"rendered":"Images Open in &#8220;Print Pictures&#8221; Instead of the Photos App"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you double-click an image file (e.g., JPG\/PNG\/BMP) in Windows 11, the image file opens in the &#8220;Print Pictures&#8221; app\/dialog instead of the Photos app.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27039\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/print-pictures-dialog.png\" alt=\"Print Pictures dialog opens when double-clicking photos\" width=\"735\" height=\"557\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This happens if the &#8220;Print&#8221; command is somehow registered as the default double-click action for image files in Windows 11.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26736\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/remove-clipchamp-context-2.png\" alt=\"remove &quot;edit with clipchamp&quot;\" width=\"431\" height=\"323\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Reinstalling the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/reinstall-photos-app-windows-10\/\">Photos app<\/a> doesn&#8217;t resolve the issue.<\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>The above symptom is caused by a buggy shell extension that comes with the Clipchamp app. The above bug could be simulated in the current version (v2.3.0.0) of Clipchamp.<\/p>\n<p><em>See also: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/fix-slow-right-click-crashes-shell-extensions\/\">Troubleshoot Shell extension issues in Windows<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Solution<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve the problem, disable the Clipchamp shell extension (<code>Clipchamp.ShellExtension.dll<\/code>) via the registry, or uninstall the Clipchamp app if you don&#8217;t plan to use it.<\/p>\n<p>You can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-10-store-apps-uninstaller-preinstalled-apps\/\">uninstall<\/a> Clipchamp via the Start menu or Settings \u2192 Apps &amp; Features.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27040\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/uninstall-clipchamp.png\" alt=\"uninstall Clipchamp - Print Pictures dialog opens when double-clicking photos\" width=\"547\" height=\"485\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Alternately, to disable Clipchamp shell extension only (without removing the app), open Command Prompt as administrator.
