If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If te location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or Internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted.<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27043\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/location-unavailable-folder-dropbox.jpg\" alt=\"shell folder location unavailable - dropbox\" width=\"590\" height=\"295\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you access the Music folder&#8217;s properties, you&#8217;ll see a shortcut overlay icon in it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27042\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/location-unavailable-folder-dropbox-2.jpg\" alt=\"shell folder location unavailable - dropbox\" width=\"343\" height=\"217\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The shortcut overlay probably means that the item is a Junction Point. Attempting to delete the Music shortcut in your <code>%userprofile%<\/code> folder will cause the following error:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Item Not Found\r\n\r\nCould not find this item.\r\n\r\nThis item is no longer located in C:\\Users\\Ramesh. Verify the item's location and try again.<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27044\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/location-unavailable-folder-dropbox-3.jpg\" alt=\"shell folder location unavailable - dropbox\" width=\"512\" height=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you run the command &#8220;<code>DIR \/AL<\/code>&#8221; from the <code>%userprofile%<\/code> folder in Command Prompt, it would show you that the item is an NTFS Junction Point pointing to a non-existent Dropbox folder.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27048\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/dropbox-shell-folder-junction-1.png\" alt=\"dropbox - shell folder junction point remove\" width=\"978\" height=\"392\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/dropbox-shell-folder-junction-1.png 978w, https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/dropbox-shell-folder-junction-1-768x308.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 978px) 100vw, 978px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the above example, the Music reparse point is pointing to the following Dropbox folder:<\/p>\n<pre>C:\\Users\\Ramesh\\Dropbox\\M PC (Vostro-3470)\\Music<\/pre>\n<p>Since Dropbox has been uninstalled and the above folder has been deleted, the Music Junction Point is inoperable.<\/p>\n<p>Also, you can use the &#8220;<code>rd music<\/code>&#8221; command or Microsoft Sysinternals&#8217; Junction tool to remove the reparse point. You&#8217;ll get the error &#8220;<strong>Error deleting Music: Access is denied<\/strong>&#8221; when doing so. The error occurs because the folder is a known\/shell folder, and Windows doesn&#8217;t allow deleting shell folders when Windows is running.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27046\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/dropbox-shell-folder-junction-2.png\" alt=\"dropbox - shell folder junction point remove\" width=\"750\" height=\"177\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>The above symptoms are caused if you had redirected your shell folder(s) to Dropbox, and later uninstalled Dropbox without properly turning off synchronization (in the Dropbox client&#8217;s settings).<\/p>\n<h2>Solution<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve the issue, follow one of these methods:<\/p>\n<h3>Method 1: Reinstall Dropbox and disable backup<\/h3>\n<p>If you have already uninstalled the desktop app, reinstall the desktop app to disable your backup.<\/p>\n<p>To disable your Dropbox backup:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open your Dropbox desktop preferences.<\/li>\n<li>Click the Backups tab.<\/li>\n<li>Click Manage backup.<\/li>\n<li>Under Adjust settings, click Disable backup.<\/li>\n<li>Choose &#8220;Keep content in folders on this PC&#8221;.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_27134\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27134\" style=\"width: 741px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-27134 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/disable-backup-dropbox.png\" alt=\"disable backup in dropbox\" width=\"751\" height=\"365\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-27134\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Screenshot: Dropbox client version 154.4.5363<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>\n<li>Click Disable backup.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Now, the files and folders you stopped backing up can be found in their original folders on your computer. The user shell folders paths would automatically be reset to Windows default.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Method 2: Restore the Actual Shell folder paths Manually<\/h3>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t want to reinstall Dropbox again, use this method.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s remove the obsolete shell folder reparse point (Directory Junction created by the Dropbox sync client) using the built-in <code>Fsutil.exe<\/code> console tool.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open Command Prompt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/open-elevated-command-prompt-windows\/\">as administrator<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Use the following command-line syntax to remove the reparse point:\n<pre>fsutil reparsepoint delete [folderpath]<\/pre>\n<p>For instance, if the Music folder (Junction Point) is stuck, to remove the reparse point, run this command:<\/p>\n<pre>fsutil reparsepoint delete \"C:\\Users\\Ramesh\\Music\"<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27045\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/dropbox-shell-folder-junction-3.png\" alt=\"dropbox - shell folder junction point remove\" width=\"750\" height=\"55\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Note: You don&#8217;t need to type the full path if the Command Prompt is currently in the User Profile folder.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>That&#8217;s it. The item is no longer a junction point. Instead, it would be transformed into a regular folder, as depicted by the following screenshot.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27047\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/dropbox-shell-folder-junction-4.png\" alt=\"dropbox - shell folder junction point remove\" width=\"750\" height=\"162\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;<code>Dir<\/code>&#8221; output would now read &#8220;<code><strong>&lt;DIR&gt;\u00a0 \u00a0Music<\/strong><\/code>&#8221; instead of &#8220;<code><strong>&lt;JUNCTION&gt;\u00a0 \u00a0Music<\/strong><\/code>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>The Music folder is usable right away.<\/p>\n<p>Type &#8220;<code>shell: my music<\/code>&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/shell-commands-to-access-the-special-folders\/\">more info<\/a>) in the Start\/Run dialog to see if the system launches your Music folder correctly.
