If you want to get back the classic Windows 10 paint in Windows 11, this article is for you!<\/p>\n<h2>Restore Classic Paint in Windows 11<\/h2>\n<p>To get back classic Windows 10 version of Paint in Windows 11, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1: Copy the classic Paint files<\/h3>\n<p>The mspaint.exe program and the related binaries from Windows 10 21H2 or earlier work perfectly fine on Windows 11.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Paint-Classic.zip\">Paint (Classic).zip<\/a> [2.03 MB] and open the archive. On Windows 10 21H2, Microsoft Paint is still a classic app available as an Optional Feature or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/unable-to-create-new-document-wordpad-mspaint\/\">Feature-On-Demand<\/a>.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Now, you should be able to launch classic Paint by double-clicking <code>mspaint.exe<\/code>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\">\n<h4>What&#8217;s your locale &#8211; en-US or en-GB?<\/h4>\n<p>If you&#8217;re using a different locale, rename the &#8220;<code>en-US<\/code>&#8221; folder above to your LCID accordingly. For example, rename &#8220;<code>en-US<\/code>&#8221; to &#8220;<code>en-GB<\/code>&#8221; for English (UK), or &#8220;<code>en-CA<\/code>&#8221; for English (Canada). To do so:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open Settings.<\/li>\n<li>Click Apps \u2192 Apps &amp; Features<\/li>\n<li>Expand &#8220;More settings&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Click &#8220;App execution aliases&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Disable the toggle switch for Paint (<code>mspaint.exe<\/code>)<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26841\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/w11-mspaint-alias-off.png\" alt=\"mspaint.exe classic app execution alias turn off\" width=\"677\" height=\"322\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Close Settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em><strong>Note:<\/strong> Turning off the app execution alias for mspaint.exe will remove the following items for good so that you can run classic mspaint.exe alongside the modern Paint app:<\/em><\/p>\n<pre>Junction Point\/stub or redirector file:\nC:\\Users\\%username%\\AppData\\Local\\Microsoft\\WindowsApps\\mspaint.exe\n\nRegistry key:\n<span class=\"pl-k\">HKEY_CURRENT_USER<\/span>\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\App Paths\\mspaint.exe<\/pre>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> Similarly to run the classic Notepad by typing its file name, you need to turn off the Notepad alias on the above screen. for more information, check out the article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/restore-old-classic-notepad-windows\/\">How to Restore Old Classic Notepad in Windows 11<\/a><\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Step 3: Register Microsoft Paint Classic with Default Apps<\/h3>\n<p>After doing &#8220;Step 1&#8221; and &#8220;Step 2&#8221;, you should be able to run classic Paint by running the executable file. These registry settings let you run classic Paint as well as the default\/modern Paint app simultaneously.
