The following error appears after taking a screenshot:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Snipping Tool\r\n\r\nFailed to open the file.<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26787\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/snip-failed-open-file-1.png\" alt=\"snip failed to open the file\" width=\"532\" height=\"222\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On Windows 10, the Snip &amp; Sketch tool may throw the same error after taking a snip:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Snip &amp; Sketch\r\n\r\nFailed to open the file.<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26788\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/snip-failed-open-file-2.png\" alt=\"Snip &amp; Sketch failed to open the file\" width=\"502\" height=\"323\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>The above error pops up when you click on the &#8220;Snip copied to clipboard &#8211; Select here to mark up and share the image&#8221; notification (at the bottom right corner of the screen) after taking a snip using Snipping Tool\/Snip &amp; Sketch app or using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/win-shift-s-snip-sketch-key-not-working-windows-10\/\">Win + Shift + S<\/a> keyboard shortcut.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Note: On Windows 11, classic Snipping Tool and Snip &amp; Sketch apps are now called \u201cSnipping Tool\u201d. On Windows 10, as of this writing (v21H2), the &#8220;Snipping Tool&#8221; and &#8220;Snip &amp; Sketch&#8221; are separate apps.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The above error occurs if the Data Sharing Service (<code>DsSvc<\/code>) is disabled.
