Close some programs that you aren't using or free some hard disk space (if it's almost full), and then try again.<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25477\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/wpv-no-memory-icc-0.png\" alt=\"windows photo viewer cannot display image - not enough memory - icc profile metadata\" width=\"459\" height=\"371\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a misleading error message, as in most cases, it may not have anything to do with the system memory. The Windows Photo Viewer error is caused due to color profile metadata (<code>ICC_Profile<\/code>) embedded into the JPG image(s).<\/p>\n<p><em>(You can reproduce the issue by transferring images from your Android\/iOS mobile and previewing the image using Windows Photo Viewer on your computer. A<\/em><em>nother possibility is that your system has multiple video cards and the issue happens on the secondary graphics card only. Switching over to the primary video card may resolve the error.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>However, other utilities like IrfanView, GIMP, or the built-in\/modern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/reinstall-photos-app-windows-10\/\">Photos app<\/a> would be able to open the image correctly.\u00a0This issue is limited to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/restore-windows-photo-viewer-windows-10\/\">Windows Photo Viewer<\/a> (and perhaps <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-essentials-offline-installer-download-links\/\">Windows Live Photo Gallery<\/a>) only.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/webp-appear-dark-windows-photo-viewer\/\">[Fix] WebP Images Appear Very Dark in Windows Photo Viewer<\/a><\/div>\n<h2>[Fix] Error &#8220;Windows Photo Viewer can&#8217;t display this picture&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve the error &#8220;Windows Photo Viewer can&#8217;t display this picture&#8221;, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch the Color Control Panel applet by running <code>colorcpl.exe<\/code> from the Run dialog. Alternately, you can open the classic Control Panel, All Control Panel Items, and click <strong>Color Management<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In the Devices tab, select each ICC profile and click on the Remove button. This is the most <strong>important<\/strong> step!\n<div class=\"newline\"><em>(Selecting the system default setting &#8220;<strong>System default (sRGB IEC61966-2.1)<\/strong>&#8221; is the root cause for the error in Windows Photo Viewer.)<\/em><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>Click OK.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You should now be able to preview the JPEG files successfully!<\/p>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-photo-gallery-shows-tinted-background-when-previewing-images\/\">Windows Photo Viewer Shows Yellow Tint Background When Previewing Images<\/a><\/div>\n<h2>Workaround<\/h2>\n<p>Selecting the &#8220;Agfa: Swop Standard&#8221; profile ought to fix the issue in most cases. In case you don&#8217;t want to change the default device profile, there is a workaround for you.<\/p>\n<p>The trick is to delete the ICC_Profile metadata selectively from each JPEG image file. To do so, you can rely on the third-party utility named ExifTool, or the ExifToolGUI tool.<\/p>\n<h3>ExifToolGUI<\/h3>\n<p>ExifToolGUI is a front-end for the ExifTool command-line tool. ExifToolGUI needs the ExifTool.exe command-line tool in the same folder in order to run correctly.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the download links for both:<\/p>\n<pre>Latest ExiftoolGUI version 5.16:\r\nhttps:\/\/exiftool.org\/forum\/index.php?topic=2750.0\r\n\r\nExifTool by Phil Harvey:\r\nhttps:\/\/exiftool.org\/<\/pre>\n<p>Start ExifToolGUI and select the folder\/file (multiple selections of files are allowed). ExifTool is an excellent tool that lets you strip off specific metadata without erasing the other useful meta information such as Date, Camera, GeoTagged data, etc.<\/p>\n<h4>Adobe Photoshop user?<\/h4>\n<p>If you&#8217;re a Photoshop user, to strip off the ICC_Profile metadata, you can open the image in Photoshop and save it with another name. In the Save as dialog, make sure to uncheck the &#8220;<strong>ICC Profile: sRGB IEC61966-2.1<\/strong>&#8221; option when saving the JPG file with Photoshop. This makes the JPEG file compatible with Windows Photo Viewer.<\/p>\n<p>Note that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/safekeep-windows-spotlight-images-windows-10-app-scripts\/\">Windows Spotlight images<\/a> don&#8217;t have the ICC color profile metadata attached to them; most of the metadata including the Camera information is stripped.
