In Windows 11, the Windows Terminal context menu item appears in the right-click menu for folders and the desktop.<\/p>\n

Suppose you’re already using the “Open PowerShell window here” or “Open Command window here<\/a>” option and don’t plan to launch Terminal via the right-click menu. In that case, you can remove the “Open in Windows Terminal” context menu entry to declutter the menu.<\/p>\n

Remove “Open in Windows Terminal” Context Menu in Windows 11<\/h2>\n

  1. Launch the Registry Editor (regedit.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n
  2. Go to the following location:\n
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Shell Extensions<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
  3. Create a subkey named “Blocked<\/code>“<\/li>\n
  4. Under the “Blocked<\/code>” subkey, create a REG_SZ value named {9F156763-7844-4DC4-B2B1-901F640F5155}<\/code><\/li>\n
  5. Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n
  6. Log off and log back in, or restart the Explorer shell<\/a> via Task Manager for the change to take effect.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
    This removes the “Open in Windows Terminal” option from the desktop and folder right-click menu in Windows 11.<\/p>\n
    Note: You can still launch Windows Terminal and Windows Terminal (Admin) from the Win + X menu or using other ways.<\/em><\/p>\n
