To Pin a folder as a separate item in the Taskbar, use these steps.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Right-click on the folder you want to Pin to taskbar, click Send To and click Desktop (create shortcut)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/pin-folder-1.png\" width=\"585\" height=\"488\"><\/p>\n<p>This creates the shortcut to that folder in the Desktop. Right-click on the newly created desktop shortcut and choose Properties.<\/p>\n<p>Prefix the Target field with &#8220;explorer&#8221;. For example, if the folder path is<\/p>\n<pre>C:\\Users\\Ramesh\\Pictures\\Screenshots<\/pre>\n<p>Change that to:<\/p>\n<pre>explorer C:\\Users\\Ramesh\\Pictures\\Screenshots<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/pin-folder-2.PNG\" width=\"363\" height=\"509\"><\/p>\n<p>You can change the shortcut icon by clicking the <u>C<\/u>hange Icon&#8230;, and select an icon from the <i>Shell32.dll<\/i> or <i>ImageRes.dll<\/i> (both located in C:\\Windows\\System32 folder.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/pin-folder-3.PNG\" width=\"292\" height=\"357\"><\/p>\n<p>Click OK.<\/p>\n<p>Right-click on the Desktop shortcut and click Pin to Taskbar. The desktop shortcut can now be deleted.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/pin-folder-4.png\" width=\"200\" height=\"69\"><\/p>\n<p><b>Note:<\/b> Although this adds the folder as a separate item in Taskbar, thumbnail preview won&#8217;t work for the item. Instead the thumbnail preview for it is seen when you hover your mouse over the File Explorer icon.<\/p>\n<h2>Create a Custom Toolbar in Taskbar<\/h2>\n<p>Another option is to create a custom toolbar in the taskbar, and add shortcuts in there.<\/p>\n<p>1. Create a folder in your preferred location that&#8217;s permanent. Add shortcuts to various folders inside that folder, and customize the icons for each folder shortcut.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/pin-folder-8.png\" width=\"460\" height=\"178\"><\/p>\n<p>2. Right-click Taskbar, click Toolbars, and click New Toolbar&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>3. Select the folder you created in Step 1. This adds the folder as a menu in the Taskbar.<\/p>\n<p>4. Right-click Taskbar and uncheck Lock the Taskbar<\/p>\n<p>5. Drag the separator shown near the custom toolbar item, and expand it to the left.<\/p>\n<p>6. Right-click the custom toolbar, and uncheck Show Text<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/pin-folder-6.png\" width=\"267\" height=\"575\"><\/p>\n<p><i>Optionally, right-click on the custom toolbar, click View and click <b>Large icons<\/b>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>7. Right-click Taskbar and click Lock the taskbar.
