Follow both these steps to resolve the problem.<\/p>\n<h2>Create the IsShortcut registry value<\/h2>\n<p>Press WinKey + R to launch the Run dialog.<\/p>\n<p>Type <code>regedit.exe<\/code> and click OK.<\/p>\n<p>Go to the following branch:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\lnkfile<\/pre>\n<p>In the right pane, create a REG_SZ (String value) named <code>IsShortcut<\/code><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/winxmenu-2.png\" width=\"517\" height=\"184\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/p>\n<p><b>REG File: <\/b>Alternately, you can apply the <b>.lnk<\/b> registry fix at File Association Fixes Page: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/file-association-fixes-windows-10\/\">Windows 10<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/file-asso-fixes-for-windows-8\/\">Windows 8<\/a><\/p>\n<p><i>(Note: If you had removed the <b>IsShortcut<\/b> value earlier to hide the shortcut overlay icon, note that there is a better and safer method to hide the overlay icon for shortcuts. Use Method 2 in the article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/remove-modify-shortcut-overlay-windows\/\">How To Remove Or Modify The Shortcut Overlay In Windows<\/a>, which applies to all versions of Windows.)<\/i><\/p>\n<h2>Copy Win+X Group Folders from Default Profile<\/h2>\n<p>Open File Explorer and explore this folder:<\/p>\n<pre>C:\\Users\\%username%\\AppData\\Local\\Microsoft\\Windows\\WinX<\/pre>\n<p>Rename these three folders by adding <b>-old<\/b> suffix.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Group1<\/li>\n<li>Group2<\/li>\n<li>Group3<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then, open this folder:<\/p>\n<pre>C:\\Users\\Default\\AppData\\Local\\Microsoft\\Windows\\WinX<\/pre>\n<p>Copy the 3 folders to location #1 above.<\/p>\n<p>Log off and login back for the changes to take effect.<\/p>\n<h3>Related<\/h3>\n<p>There is a similar problem where 3rd party shell extension interferes with the Win+X menu.
