When you hover the mouse pointer, it may say, &#8220;<b>The Audio Service is not running<\/b>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Clicking the speaker icon may launch the Get Help or the audio troubleshooter. This happens if the Windows Audio service is turned off. As a result, there will be no sound output in your device.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25980\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/audio-service-error.png\" alt=\"windows audio service not started\" width=\"274\" height=\"74\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Launching the Volume Mixer by running <code>Sndvol.exe<\/code> would show the following error:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">No audio device is installed<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25981\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/no-audio-volume-mixer.png\" alt=\"windows audio service not started\" width=\"494\" height=\"138\" \/><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To restore the audio playback functionality on your Windows 10 or 11 PC, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click Start, type <strong>services.msc<\/strong> in the Start Search box.<\/li>\n<li>Scroll down the list of services, right-click Windows Audio, and select Start.<\/li>\n<li>Double-click <strong>Windows Audio<\/strong> and set its Startup Type to Automatic.<\/li>\n<li>In the Log On tab, make sure that &#8220;Log on as:&#8221; is set to &#8220;Local Service&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Double-click <strong>Windows Audio Endpoint Builder<\/strong> and set its Startup Type to Automatic.<\/li>\n<li>See if you can start <strong>Windows Audio Endpoint Builder<\/strong> and <strong>Windows Audio<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Exit the Services console.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In some cases, the <b>Windows Audio<\/b> service may not start, and you get one of the following errors:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Windows could not start the Windows Audio service on Local Computer.\r\n\r\nError 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.<\/pre>\n<p>(or)<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start<\/pre>\n<p>To resolve the error 1068, ensure that the <strong>Windows Audio Endpoint Builder<\/strong> service is started and set to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-10-default-services-configuration\/\">Automatic<\/a> start.<\/p>\n<p>Error 1075 occurs if the Windows Audio Endpoint Builder Service is deleted. You can verify that by launching the Services MMC.<\/p>\n<h4>Windows Audio Endpoint Builder Service is missing?<\/h4>\n<p>It appears that the Windows Audio Endpoint Builder service goes missing in the Services MMC (<code>services.msc<\/code>) on some systems for unknown reasons. The user may have inadvertently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/how-to-remove-unwanted-service\/\">deleted the service<\/a>. Click Yes when prompted for confirmation.<\/li>\n<li>Open the <code>C:\\Windows\\System32<\/code> folder and verify if the file <code>AudioEndpointBuilder.dll<\/code> exists.
