As the above scenarios involve Microsoft account sign-in issues, the service <strong>Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant<\/strong> (short name: <code>wlidsvc<\/code>)\u00a0must be enabled and running.<\/p>\n<p>This service enables user sign-in through Microsoft account identity services. If this service is stopped, users will not be able to logon to the computer with their Microsoft account.<\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\">\n<p><strong>Steps you may have tried:<\/strong>You may have attempted the following fixes, but in vain:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/restore-windows-store-windows-10-uninstall-with-powershell\/\">Reinstalling Microsoft Store<\/a> using PowerShell.<\/li>\n<li>Resetting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/cannot-install-windows-store-apps-edge-extensions-windows-10\/\">Store app cache<\/a> using WSReset.<\/li>\n<li>Running the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/fix-store-app-issues-using-troubleshooter-windows-10\/\">Store apps troubleshooter<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/fix-windows-update-errors\/\">Windows Update troubleshooting<\/a> standard procedure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve the error <code>0x80070426<\/code> in Windows 10, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1: Disable your VPN<\/h3>\n<p>Turn off your VPN to see if it causes the sign-in\/authentication issues.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Step 2: Fix the Services configuration<\/h3>\n<p>If disabling or uninstalling your VPN software doesn&#8217;t fix the problem, follow the steps below to start the Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant service:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch the Services MMC by running <code>services.msc<\/code><\/li>\n<li>Double-click the <strong>Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant<\/strong> service from the list.<\/li>\n<li>Set its Startup Type to Manual.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Start<\/strong> to start the service manually.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div class=\"qt\">\n<p>Alternatively, if you&#8217;d like to accomplish this using command-line, open an admin Command Prompt window, and type the following commands.(Press <code>Enter<\/code> after each command)<\/p>\n<pre>sc config wlidsvc start= demand\n\nnet start wlidsvc<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<p>Also, in the Services MMC, make sure that the following services are set to Manual:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Microsoft Passport<\/strong> (short name: <code>NgcSvc<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Microsoft Passport Container<\/strong> (short name: <code>NgcCtnrSvc<\/code>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>(By default, in a clean installation of Windows 10, the above three services are set to Manual. Check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-10-default-services-configuration\/\">Windows 10 Default Services Configuration<\/a> listing.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Microsoft Passport services can&#8217;t be configured via the Services MMC by default, as the controls would be grayed out. You may instead edit the startup type in Registry using the Registry Editor.<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\NgcSvc\nHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\NgcCtnrSvc<\/pre>\n<p>In the above registry keys, set <code>Start<\/code> value to <code>3<\/code>.<\/p>\n<p>The value data of <code>3<\/code> denotes <strong>Manual<\/strong>. <code>4<\/code> denotes <strong>Disabled<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After making the changes, you need to restart Windows.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Step 3: Clear the locally stored MSA credentials<\/h3>\n<p>If none of the above steps help, you may clear the Windows Live\/Microsoft Account stored credentials using the <a title=\"Windows 10 forgets stored credentials or passwords in Outlook, Edge, Chrome, etc\" href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-10-forgets-stored-credentials-passwords-outlook-apps\/\">Credential Manager<\/a> in the Control Panel.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch the Credential Manager<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Windows Credentials<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Under Generic Credentials, select the Windows Live or Microsoft Account credentials (including the SSO_POP_User) and remove each entry.<\/li>\n<li>Restart Windows.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You&#8217;ll be asked to input the username and password and also verify using 2-factor authentication when you access the Store or other apps the next time.<\/p>\n<p>Hope one of the above methods helped you fix the error <code>0x80070426<\/code> on your Windows 10 device.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When you attempt to install or update an app via the Microsoft Store app, you may receive the error 0x80070426.
