The error may occur regardless of whether you transfer the photos via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/restore-import-pictures-and-videos-autoplay-option-windows-10\/\">Import Photos wizard<\/a> or when copying them manually from the <code>DCIM<\/code> folder via File Explorer.<\/p>\n<p>In some cases, you receive the following error:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Something went wrong. Your files might not have been imported. Try again.<\/pre>\n<p>The error code <code>0x80070141 - The device is unreachable<\/code> can usually be fixed by changing the USB port (to a USB 2.0 port, preferably). And if that doesn&#8217;t work the USB cable may need to be changed. However, for iPhone or iPad users, there is a simple media export setting that prevents the error from occurring.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/photos-app-freezes-import-iphone-camera\/\">Photos App Freezes When Importing Pictures from iPhone\/Android or Camera<\/a><\/div>\n<h2>Workaround<\/h2>\n<p>To prevent the error <code>0x80070141<\/code> when transferring photos from iPhone, change the media transfer setting on the iPhone.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open iPhone settings, Photos.<\/li>\n<li>Under <strong>Transfer to Mac or PC<\/strong>, select the <strong>Keep Originals<\/strong> option.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19175\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/iphone-transfer-settings-1.jpg\" alt=\"iphone media transfer automatic vs keep originals\" width=\"742\" height=\"1280\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Description: Automatically transfer photos and videos in a compatible format, or always transfer the original file without checking for compatibility.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Automatic<\/strong> option would convert the photos to JPEG, which is what is causing the error <code>0x80070141<\/code> on some devices.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Keep Originals<\/strong> option would import the photos in the High-Efficiency Image File Format (HEIF) with the file extension .HIEC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note that the HEIF file format offers better compression than JPEG, so they use less storage space on your device. If required, you may then convert the HEIF or HEVC (High-Efficiency Video Coding) files by exporting to a different format from an Apple or third-party app.<\/p>\n<h4>That doesn&#8217;t help?<\/h4>\n<p>If the above doesn&#8217;t help, you may need to change the USB port and try importing the photos again.
