When you open the User Accounts dialog by running control userpasswords2<\/code> or netplwiz.exe<\/code> to configure automatic login<\/a> to your user account, the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer<\/strong> option may be missing in that dialog.<\/p>\n

As a result, you’re unable to configure auto-login to your user account. This post tells you how to bring back the option in Windows 10 or 11.<\/p>\n

Cause<\/h2>\n

The “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer” option may be hidden\/missing if the “only allow Windows Hello sign-in” option is enabled in Settings. Windows Hello is a more personal, secure way to get instant access to your Windows 10 devices using fingerprint, facial recognition, or a secure PIN.<\/p>\n

The Windows Hello setting was turned on automatically during the clean installation of Windows 10 2004 and Windows 11.<\/p>\n

Resolution<\/h2>\n

To configure auto-login, turn off the mandatory Windows Hello sign-in option. Use one of the methods below.<\/p>\n

Method 1: Using Settings<\/h3>\n

  1. Click Start, Settings, and click Accounts.<\/li>\n
  2. Click on Sign-in options<\/li>\n
  3. Turn off the radio button under the Require Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts<\/strong> section.\n

    Method 2: Using the registry<\/h3>\n

    You can disable the Require Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts<\/strong> option using the registry. This option works even if the “For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in” option is missing<\/strong> in Settings.<\/p>\n

    Launch regedit.exe<\/strong> and go to the following branch:<\/p>\n
