This post tells you how to bring back the option in Windows 10 or 11.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>The &#8220;Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer&#8221; option may be hidden\/missing if the &#8220;only allow Windows Hello sign-in&#8221; option is enabled in Settings. This option works even if the &#8220;For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in&#8221; option is <strong>missing<\/strong> in Settings.<\/p>\n<p>Launch <strong>regedit.exe<\/strong> and go to the following branch:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"registry\">HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\PasswordLess\\Device<\/pre>\n<h4>Value name:<\/h4>\n<p><strong>DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>Data:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><code>0<\/code> means Require Windows Hello sign-in is disabled<\/li>\n<li><code>2<\/code> means Require Windows Hello sign-in is enabled<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18538\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/userpasswords2-option-missing-4.png\" alt=\"userpasswords2 password checkbox missing\" width=\"701\" height=\"246\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Deleting <code>DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion<\/code> or setting it to <code>0<\/code> would enable the &#8220;Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer&#8221; checkbox.<\/p>\n<p>After disabling the above setting, close and reopen the User Accounts dialog by running <code>netplwiz.exe<\/code> or <code>control userpasswords2<\/code><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18536\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/userpasswords2-option-missing-2.png\" alt=\"userpasswords2 password checkbox missing\" width=\"463\" height=\"510\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer&#8221; checkbox is now restored.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Workaround: Autologon utility from Microsoft<\/h3>\n<p>As a workaround to the above methods, use the <strong>Autologon<\/strong> utility from Windows Sysinternals to configure the automatic login.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-24012\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/autologon-sysinternals.png\" alt=\"automatic login sysinternals\" width=\"305\" height=\"154\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sysinternals\/downloads\/autologon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Autologon<\/a> enables you to easily configure Windows\u2019 built-in auto-login mechanism.<\/p>\n<p>Launch autologon.exe, fill in the username and password for the account you want to enable automatic login.
