If you&#8217;re a person who likes to clean up the clutter and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/add-remove-edit-with-paint-3d-context-menu\/\">removes unused context menu<\/a> items, this article is for you.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18096\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/share-with-skype-remove-0.png\" alt=\"remove share with skype context menu\" width=\"361\" height=\"230\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Note that third-party tools like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/fix-slow-right-click-crashes-shell-extensions\/\">ShellExView<\/a> (v2.01) don&#8217;t seem to list this context menu item, as it&#8217;s added by a modern or UWP Microsoft Store app. Let&#8217;s see how to remove the <strong>Share with Skype<\/strong> right-click menu option manually in Windows 10.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/add-remove-edit-with-paint-3d-context-menu\/\">Remove &#8220;Edit with Paint 3D&#8221; &amp; &#8220;Edit with Photos&#8221; from Right-click Menu in Windows 10<\/a><\/div>\n<h2>Remove &#8220;Share with Skype&#8221; from the Right-click Menu<\/h2>\n<p>To remove the <strong>Share with Skype<\/strong> context menu option, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<h3>Method 1<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Start the Registry Editor (<code>regedit.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>Go to the following key:\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Shell Extensions<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Under <code>Shell Extensions<\/code>, create a subkey named <code><strong>Blocked<\/strong><\/code> if it doesn&#8217;t already exist.<\/li>\n<li>With the <code>Blocked<\/code> subkey selected, in the right pane, add a new String (REG_SZ) value named <code>{776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8}<\/code><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18100\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/share-with-skype-remove-4.png\" alt=\"remove share with skype context menu\" width=\"700\" height=\"199\" \/><\/li>\n<li><strong>Optionally<\/strong>, double-click <code>{776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8}<\/code> and set its data to <code>Skype<\/code> or some text you prefer.<\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<li>Logoff and login back, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/exit-explorer-restart-windows-10-8\/\">restart the Explorer shell<\/a> for the change to take effect.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This removes the <strong>Share with Skype<\/strong> context menu option by blocking the GUID <code>{776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8}<\/code> &amp; the corresponding DLL file <code>SkypeContext.dll<\/code> from loading.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6338 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/icotip.gif\" alt=\"tips bulb icon\" width=\"34\" height=\"34\" \/>Blocking the GUID shouldn&#8217;t affect the functionality of the Skype app in any other way; you can use Skype as usual.<\/p>\n<p>This is the most preferred method because the setting will be in effect even if the Skype app is updated to a newer version.<\/p>\n<h3>Method 2<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Start the Registry Editor (<code>regedit.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>Go to the following key:\n<pre>HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\PackagedCom\\ClassIndex\\{776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8}<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Rename <code>{776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8}<\/code> to <code>{776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8}--<\/code><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18098\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/share-with-skype-remove-2.png\" alt=\"remove share with skype context menu\" width=\"700\" height=\"265\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This removes the Share with Skype context menu option in Windows 10.<\/p>\n<h3>Method 3<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Start the Registry Editor (<code>regedit.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>Go to the following key:\n<pre>HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\PackagedCom\\Package<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>There you&#8217;ll find more than one key referencing <code>SkypeApp<\/code>. You&#8217;ll need to expand the branch that represents the most recent version of Skype. In this example, I expand <code>Microsoft.SkypeApp_15.63.76.0_x86__kzf8qxf38zg5c<\/code><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18097\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/share-with-skype-remove-1.png\" alt=\"remove share with skype context menu\" width=\"700\" height=\"367\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Expand the Class subkey, and select <code>{776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8}<\/code><\/li>\n<li>In the right-pane, rename the value named <code>DllPath<\/code> (to <code>DllPath--<\/code> or something else. This prevents the <code>Skype\\SkypeContext.dll<\/code> DLL from being loaded.)<\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Important:<\/strong> When the Skype app updates, the registry keys, and value referenced in Method 2 &amp; 3 would be restored automatically by the Skype app package\/installer. So you may have to redo the above steps to get remove the context menu command after every Skype app update.<\/p>\n<h3>Method 4:<\/h3>\n<p>In case of the classic desktop version of Skype, the <strong>Share with Skype<\/strong> option can be removed by deleting the following registry key:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\*\\shell\\ShareWithSkype<\/pre>\n<p>Alternatively, you should be able to disable the <strong>Share with Skype<\/strong> (desktop version) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/fix-slow-right-click-crashes-shell-extensions\/\">using ShellExView<\/a>, though.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Windows 10 2004 adds the Share with Skype context menu option for all files.
