Windows 10 2004 adds the Share with Skype<\/strong> context menu option for all files. If you’re a person who likes to clean up the clutter and removes unused context menu<\/a> items, this article is for you.<\/p>\n

Note that third-party tools like ShellExView<\/a> (v2.01) don’t seem to list this context menu item, as it’s added by a modern or UWP Microsoft Store app. Let’s see how to remove the Share with Skype<\/strong> right-click menu option manually in Windows 10.<\/p>\n

Remove “Share with Skype” from the Right-click Menu<\/h2>\n

To remove the Share with Skype<\/strong> context menu option, follow these steps:<\/p>\n

Method 1<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. Start the Registry Editor (regedit.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n
  2. Go to the following key:\n
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Shell Extensions<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
  3. Under Shell Extensions<\/code>, create a subkey named Blocked<\/strong><\/code> if it doesn’t already exist.<\/li>\n
  4. With the Blocked<\/code> subkey selected, in the right pane, add a new String (REG_SZ) value named {776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8}<\/code>
    \n\"remove<\/li>\n
  5. Optionally<\/strong>, double-click {776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8}<\/code> and set its data to Skype<\/code> or some text you prefer.<\/li>\n
  6. Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n
  7. Logoff and login back, or restart the Explorer shell<\/a> for the change to take effect.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
    This removes the Share with Skype<\/strong> context menu option by blocking the GUID {776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8}<\/code> & the corresponding DLL file SkypeContext.dll<\/code> from loading.<\/p>\n
    \"tipsBlocking the GUID shouldn’t affect the functionality of the Skype app in any other way; you can use Skype as usual.<\/p>\n
    This is the most preferred method because the setting will be in effect even if the Skype app is updated to a newer version.<\/p>\n
    Method 2<\/h3>\n

    1. Start the Registry Editor (regedit.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n
    2. Go to the following key:\n
      HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\PackagedCom\\ClassIndex\\{776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8}<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
    3. Rename {776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8}<\/code> to {776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8}--<\/code>
      \n\"remove<\/li>\n
    4. Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      This removes the Share with Skype context menu option in Windows 10.<\/p>\n
      Method 3<\/h3>\n
        \n
      1. Start the Registry Editor (regedit.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n
      2. Go to the following key:\n
        HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\PackagedCom\\Package<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
      3. There you’ll find more than one key referencing SkypeApp<\/code>. You’ll need to expand the branch that represents the most recent version of Skype. In this example, I expand Microsoft.SkypeApp_15.63.76.0_x86__kzf8qxf38zg5c<\/code>
        \n\"remove<\/li>\n
      4. Expand the Class subkey, and select {776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8}<\/code><\/li>\n
      5. In the right-pane, rename the value named DllPath<\/code> (to DllPath--<\/code> or something else. This prevents the Skype\\SkypeContext.dll<\/code> DLL from being loaded.)<\/li>\n
      6. Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        Important:<\/strong> When the Skype app updates, the registry keys, and value referenced in Method 2 & 3 would be restored automatically by the Skype app package\/installer. So you may have to redo the above steps to get remove the context menu command after every Skype app update.<\/p>\n
        Method 4:<\/h3>\n
        In case of the classic desktop version of Skype, the Share with Skype<\/strong> option can be removed by deleting the following registry key:<\/p>\n
        HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\*\\shell\\ShareWithSkype<\/pre>\n
