{"id":1538,"date":"2006-02-26T23:52:16","date_gmt":"2006-02-26T18:22:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/198.58.113.91\/blog\/?p=1538"},"modified":"2022-10-04T09:13:20","modified_gmt":"2022-10-04T03:43:20","slug":"restore-missing-compressed-zipped-folder-option-to-the-send-to-menu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/restore-missing-compressed-zipped-folder-option-to-the-send-to-menu\/","title":{"rendered":"Fix: &#8220;Compressed (zipped) Folder&#8221; Missing in Send To Menu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This article tells you how to restore the missing &#8220;Compressed (Zipped) Folder&#8221; item to your &#8220;Send to&#8221; menu in all versions of Windows, including Windows 10 and 11.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/zipfldr-sendto-3.png\" width=\"569\" height=\"556\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>If the Compressed (Zipped) folder doesn&#8217;t appear in the Send To menu, it can be due to one of the reasons:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The SendTo folder does not have the file &#8220;Compressed (zipped) Folder.ZFSendToTarget&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>The .ZFSendToTarget file association settings are missing or incorrect.<\/li>\n<li>A 0-byte bluetooth file exists in the SendTo folder, which stalls the rendering of Send To menu.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Restore &#8220;Compressed (zipped) Folder&#8221; in &#8220;Send To&#8221; Menu<\/h2>\n<h3>Solution 1: Restore the &#8220;Compressed (zipped) folder&#8221; shortcut manually<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Press <kbd>WinKey<\/kbd> + <kbd>R<\/kbd> to open the Run dialog<\/li>\n<li>Type the following command and click OK:\n<pre>shell:sendto<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This opens the <code>SendTo<\/code> folder of your user profile.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Check if the file <code>Compressed (zipped) Folder.ZFSendToTarget<\/code> file exists. If it&#8217;s missing, copy it from the <code>Default<\/code> user folder located at:\n<pre>C:\\Users\\Default User\\AppData\\Roaming\\Microsoft\\Windows\\SendTo<\/pre>\n<p><em><strong>Alternately<\/strong>, you can download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/02\/zipfldr.zip\">zipfldr.zip<\/a>, unzip and extract the enclosed file (shortcut) to your <code>Send To<\/code> folder.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8536\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/02\/send-to-zipped-folder.png\" alt=\"restore missing send to zipped compressed folder\" width=\"557\" height=\"196\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Solution 2: Fix the .ZFSendToTarget file association<\/h3>\n<p>Checking the <code>SendTo<\/code> folder in your user profile should tell you if the <code>.ZFSendToTarget<\/code> file association setting is corrupt. Here is how it normally shows:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/zipfldr-sendto-2.png\" width=\"532\" height=\"182\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And if the <code>.ZFSendToTarget<\/code> file association settings are corrupt, it might show with a generic icon and the Type column simply reflecting the file name extension.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/zipfldr-sendto-1.png\" width=\"526\" height=\"184\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To fix this, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/how-to-open-an-elevated-command-prompt-windows-vista\/\">elevated Command Prompt<\/a> window. To open an elevated Command Prompt in Windows 8.1, 10, or 11, right-click Start, and click <code>Command Prompt (Admin)<\/code><\/li>\n<li>Type the following command and press <kbd>Enter<\/kbd>:\n<pre>assoc .zfsendtotarget=CLSID\\{888DCA60-FC0A-11CF-8F0F-00C04FD7D062}<\/pre>\n<p>and then run:<\/p>\n<pre>reg delete \"HKCU\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\FileExts\\.ZFSendToTarget\\UserChoice\" \/f<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/02\/zip-sendto-fix-cmd.png\" alt=\"zip missing sendto menu\" width=\"699\" height=\"237\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28969\" \/><br \/>\n<em>If you see the output &#8220;ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value&#8221; for the 2nd command, please ignore it.<\/em>\n<\/li>\n<li>Exit the Command Prompt.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Solution 3: Remove the 0-byte Bluetooth shortcut from the Send To folder<\/h3>\n<p>A 0-byte Bluetooth icon (named &#8220;<strong>Bluetooth<\/strong>&#8220;) may be preventing the Send To items from being displayed, including the Compressed (zipped) Folder. You need to delete the 0-byte &#8220;<strong>Bluetooth<\/strong>&#8221; shortcut\/file from your <code>SendTo<\/code> folder.
