One such little feature is the Snapshot (screenshot) Sound Event that I&#8217;m going to write about today. In Windows, you can set a .wav file to play every time you use the Print Screen key for taking&nbsp;screenshots. Doesn&#8217;t that lovely camera shutter sound come to mind when talking about screenshots?<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Activating the Hidden &quot;<b>SnapShot<\/b>&quot; Sound Event<\/h2>\n<p>Open the Registry Editor (<i>Regedit.exe<\/i>) and go to:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\AppEvents\\Schemes\\Apps\\.Default<\/pre>\n<p>Create a subkey named <b>SnapShot<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/w10-snapshot-0.png\" width=\"488\" height=\"228\"><\/p>\n<p>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>Alternately, you can type the following command in Run dialog (WinKey + R)<\/p>\n<pre>cmd \/k reg add HKCU\\AppEvents\\Schemes\\Apps\\.Default\\SnapShot<\/pre>\n<p>Type <b>EXIT<\/b> at the Command Prompt window to close it. This creates the <b>SnapShot<\/b> subkey under the specified registry path.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>Click Start, type sounds. From the search results, select Change system sounds.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/w10-snapshot-1.png\" width=\"418\" height=\"648\"><\/p>\n<p>Scroll down the Program Events list box until you see the <b>SnapShot<\/b> event.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/w10-snapshot-2.png\" width=\"425\" height=\"480\"><\/p>\n<p>Click Browse&#8230; and locate the camera shutter wav file that you&#8217;ve downloaded.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/w10-snapshot-3.png\" width=\"521\" height=\"367\"><\/p>\n<p><i>There are some nice camera shutter sounds (.wav files) available on the internet, some are for free download and others are available for cost. I downloaded one from <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.soundjay.com\/camera-sound-effect.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Camera Sound Effects &#8211; Wav Mp3<\/a>. The <b>MakeUseOf<\/b> blog has a nice post on how to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.makeuseof.com\/tag\/spice-windows-sound-effects-amazing-resources\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spice Up Your Windows Sound Effects With Amazing Resources<\/a>. It gives you the list of websites from where you can download sound files. Don&#8217;t forget that the the Windows sound schemes supports only <u>.wav<\/u> files.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Click OK.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/w10-snapshot-4.png\" width=\"425\" height=\"480\"><\/p>\n<p>Thats&#8217; it!<\/p>\n<p><i><b>Note:<\/b> If you&#8217;re using a 3rd party tool such as Snagit and the Print Screen hotkey is taken over by any such utility, the camera shutter sound doesn&#8217;t play. The SnapShot sound event works in Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 10. I haven&#8217;t tested this in a Windows XP computer yet. And when surfing the web, I learnt that this feature is already available in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/osxdaily.com\/2013\/03\/19\/turn-off-the-screen-shot-empty-trash-sound-effects-in-mac-os-x\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mac OS<\/a>; the camera shutter sound is played when taking a screen capture.<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s a nice feeling when you come across a hidden setting in Windows, be it a small tweak or a big usability feature.
