That registry edit for Windows Vista does not work in Windows 7 and higher. Here is a tip that comes courtesy of a poster at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/superuser.com\/questions\/158824\/prevent-shortcut-suffix-when-creating-shortcuts-on-windows-7\/158825\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SuperUser<\/a>, to remove the annoying &quot;- Shortcut&quot; suffix for newly created shortcuts in Windows 7\/8\/10 systems.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/shortcut-suffix-1.png\" width=\"156\" height=\"164\"><\/p>\n<p>To prevent Windows adding that &quot;- Shortcut&quot; suffix for newly created shortcuts, click Start, type <b>Regedit.exe<\/b> and press {ENTER}. Navigate to the following registry location:<\/p>\n<div id=\"registry\">HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer<\/div>\n<p>Create a subkey named <b>NamingTemplates<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Select <b>NamingTemplates<\/b>, and in the right-pane create a new String value named <b>ShortcutNameTemplate<\/b>.
