For files, it also shows the file type and the &#8220;date modified&#8221; info. Windows allows you to customize this dialog such that you can include additional metadata or property value in that dialog. For example, you can add the property value <i>System.FileOwner<\/i> so that the owner name of the file or folder you&#8217;re trying to delete is shown.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/directory-op4.png\" width=\"507\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The above is the standard dialog that shows the name and the creation date of the folder. To include additional details, start the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) and go to the following branch:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\AllFileSystemObjects<\/pre>\n<p>Create a new String Value (REG_SZ) and name it as <b>FileOperationPrompt<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Double-click <b>FileOperationPrompt<\/b> and set its value data as follows:<\/p>\n<pre>prop:System.ItemTypeText;System.FileOwner;System.DateCreated;System.DateModified;System.ItemFolderPathDisplayNarrow;<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/directory-op1.png\" width=\"405\" height=\"194\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click OK, exit the Registry Editor and try to delete a folder. Look at the dialog&#8230; it should have some additional details.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/directory-op3.png\" width=\"507\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here are some more screenshots. The modified setting applies to files and folders.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/directory-op5.png\" width=\"507\" height=\"237\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/directory-op6.png\" width=\"474\" height=\"319\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>What&#8217;re those prop: values anyway?<\/h2>\n<p>Each <i>prop:<\/i> value above indicate an individual property or metadata within the Windows Property System that can be set on files\/folders. <i>(e.g.) Remember, the mp3 albums that you download contain the Artist name, Album name, Duration, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/remove-mp3-album-art-embed-images\/\">other metadata<\/a>.<\/i> For instance, when you hover the mouse pointer over a file or folder, the info tip that appears (showing the metadata such as file type, size, modified date\/time) on the screen is done by querying the property values by the Windows shell.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, you can add more <i>prop:<\/i> types in the above registry location if you need. The MSDN <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/win32\/properties\/props\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Window Properties<\/a> page has the complete list of <i>prop:<\/i> types that you can use.
