It also lets you input the RGB values manually.<\/h4>\n<p>If you prefer solid color desktop background instead of desktop wallpaper, note that the new Personalization settings page in Windows 10 displays only 24 color choices for background color, and the color picker is no longer available.<\/p>\n<p>Color picker is a valuable tool wherein you can choose your preferred shade, as well as input the Red : Green : Blue (RGB) values to make up a custom color. <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">This is missing in the new user interface, but there are some excellent workarounds for this problem.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_24120\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24120\" style=\"width: 409px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-24120 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/color-picker-windows-10.png\" alt=\"personalize solid color - color picker\" width=\"419\" height=\"691\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24120\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Personalize &#8211; Solid Color &#8211; Color picker dialog with RGB choices<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>For older builds of Windows 10<\/h3>\n<p>If you&#8217;re still using an older build or version of Windows 10, then the following information may be useful to you.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/w10-bg-color-pick-3.png\" width=\"460\" height=\"699\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<i>Only 24 color choices shown for Solid color background.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>We have at least three workarounds:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Access the hidden classic desktop background Control Panel.<\/li>\n<li>Create a tiny image using Paint (or any other tool) and set it as background wallpaper (fill).<\/li>\n<li>Using RegEdit.exe to set the RGB values directly in the registry.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Accessing the (Hidden) Classic Desktop Background Page<\/h3>\n<p><i>Thanks to the Reddit user and MSFT employee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Windows10\/comments\/3fdfol\/custom_solid_color_background\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr.Preppy<\/a> for this tip!<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, the old desktop background Control Panel is still available but hidden, and you can access it by running this command from Run (Win + R) dialog:<\/p>\n<pre>shell:::{ED834ED6-4B5A-4bfe-8F11-A626DCB6A921} -Microsoft.Personalization\\pageWallpaper<\/pre>\n<p><i>This is another way of running Control Panel applets. Refer article <a href=\"https:\/\/msdn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/windows\/desktop\/cc144191(v=vs.85).aspx?f=255&amp;MSPPError=-2147217396\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Executing Control Panel Items (Windows)<\/a> for more such commands.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The classic desktop background page loads up. Select Solid Colors and click the <b>More&#8230;<\/b> link to bring up the color picker. Select a built-in color or customize a color and click <b>Save changes<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/w10-bg-color-pick-4.png\" width=\"503\" height=\"675\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Create an Image File Using MS Paint and Set it As the Background<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: left;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/paint-icon.png\" width=\"64\" height=\"64\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Just in case Microsoft completely removes classic Control Panel applets in future, you have other options to set a solid colored background with custom shade. Launch Microsoft Paint\u00a0 (Paint Brush &#8211; mspaint.exe). Reduce the canvas to a very small size so as to reduce the output file size.<\/p>\n<p>Choose a color from the color palette. If you need a custom color, click <b>Edit colors<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/w10-bg-color-pick-2.png\" width=\"435\" height=\"137\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select your preferred shade, and click Add to Custom Colors. Note that the RGB values are filled up automatically as you choose\/change the shade.<\/p>\n<p>Select the custom color and click OK.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/w10-bg-color-pick-1.png\" width=\"474\" height=\"356\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Use the Fill tool to fill up the canvas with the chosen color. Save the file to a convenient location. This fill will be your desktop background (solid colored one).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/w10-bg-color-pick-5.png\" width=\"426\" height=\"318\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From the <b>File<\/b> menu, click <b>Set as desktop background<\/b>, and choose the <b>Fill<\/b> option so that the tiny image fills up the entire screen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/w10-bg-color-pick-6.png\" width=\"544\" height=\"562\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This sets the solid color background in your desktop with your preferred shade.<\/p>\n<h3>Using Registry Editor to Set the Color Code (RGB) Manually<\/h3>\n<p>If you know the RGB value of your preferred color (shown in color picker dialog above), you can input it directly in the registry.<\/p>\n<p>Click Start, type Regedit.exe and press {ENTER} to launch the Registry Editor. Navigate to the following location in the Registry Editor:<\/p>\n<div class=\"registry\">\n<p>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Control Panel\\Colors<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/w10-bg-color-pick-7.png\" width=\"553\" height=\"233\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Double-click <b>Background<\/b> and type in the RGB value in the text box.
