(null)<\/div>\n<p>-or-<\/p>\n<div class=\"err\">Cannot enable shared access.<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"err\">Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived2\/w7-ics-err-5.png\" width=\"301\" height=\"184\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>To resolve the problem, make sure that the following services are started and running:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Base Filtering Engine (Automatic)<\/li>\n<li>Network Connections (Manual)<\/li>\n<li>Remote Access Connection Manager (Manual)<\/li>\n<li>Windows Management Instrumentation (Automatic)<\/li>\n<li>Windows Firewall (Automatic)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived2\/w7-ics-err-5-2.png\" width=\"364\" height=\"339\"><\/p>\n<p>In order for ICS to work <b>Windows Firewall<\/b> service needs to be enabled, although Windows Firewall isn&#8217;t listed as one of ICS dependencies.<\/p>\n<p>To enable a service, launch Services MMC (<b><i>Services.msc<\/i><\/b>). Double-click a service, set the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-7-services-default-startup-type\/\">service start type<\/a> accordingly as above, and click Start to start the service. Installing a third-party firewall software disables the Windows Firewall service.
