However, the option can be enabled via the Power Options Control Panel, using these steps:<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Restore Hibernate Option to the Start &amp; Win + X Menu<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Press <kbd>Win<\/kbd> + <kbd>R<\/kbd>, type <code>powercfg.cpl<\/code> and press <kbd>ENTER<\/kbd><\/li>\n<li>Click <b>Choose what the power button does<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived2\/poweropt1.png\" width=\"448\" height=\"367\" \/><br \/>\n<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Click <b>Change settings that are currently unavailable<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Under <b>Shutdown settings<\/b>, enable the <strong>Hibernate<\/strong> checkbox (Show in Power menu.)<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived2\/poweropt3.png\" width=\"556\" height=\"741\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The Hibernate option is now back in the <kbd>Win<\/kbd> + <kbd>X<\/kbd> menu as well as the Start menu Power button.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived2\/poweropt4.png\" width=\"492\" height=\"515\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Equivalent registry setting<\/h3>\n<pre>Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00\r\n\r\n[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\FlyoutMenuSettings]\r\n\"ShowSleepOption\"=dword:00000001\r\n\"ShowHibernateOption\"=dword:00000001\r\n\"ShowLockOption\"=dword:00000001<\/pre>\n<p>The above <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/how-to-use-reg-files-registration-entries-windows\/\">.reg file<\/a> enables the Sleep, Hibernate and Lock options in the Power options flyout.<\/p>\n<h3>Set Hibernation type to &#8220;Full&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p>If that doesn&#8217;t help, it&#8217;s possible that the hibernate feature may be set to &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/disable-hibernation-without-disabling-fast-startup\/\">Reduced<\/a>&#8221; mode.<\/p>\n<p>Open an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/open-elevated-command-prompt-windows\/\">administrator Command Prompt<\/a> window and run the following commands to enable the full hibernation feature.<\/p>\n<pre>powercfg \/h on\r\n\r\npowercfg \/h \/type full<\/pre>\n<p>Hope that brings back &#8220;Hibernate&#8221; option to the Start menu and Win+X menu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Power user menu (Win + X) and the Start menu power button do not display Hibernate option by default in Windows 8 and Windows 10.
