Also, one or more of the context menu items may appear twice, as in the image below.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/w7-pin-missing-1.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><i>Note that the &#8220;Pin to ..&#8221; options are missing, and the &#8220;Scan with Microsoft Security Essentials&#8230;&#8221; entry appears twice. (See also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/xp\/dupcontexts.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Duplicate Context Menu Entries<\/a>.)<\/i><\/p>\n<p>This is one of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=isshortcut+site:winhelponline.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">many side-effects<\/a> caused by the removal of IsShortcut registry value. To fix the duplicate context menus and to restore missing &#8220;Pin to Taskbar&#8221; \/ &#8220;Pin to Start Menu&#8221; entries,\u00a0 download and apply the <b>.lnk<\/b> file association fix from the following link:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/file-asso-fixes-for-windows-7\/\">File Association Fixes for Windows 7 and Windows Vista<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This restores the <b>IsShortcut<\/b> String value in the following registry key:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\lnkfile<\/pre>\n<p><i>Note: For a proper way to remove the shortcut arrow in Windows Vista and Windows 7, use the &#8220;Shell Icons&#8221; registry branch. See the article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/articles\/153\/1\/How-to-remove-or-modify-the-Shortcut-overlay-in-Windows-7-and-Vista.html\">How to remove or modify the Shortcut overlay in Windows<\/a>\u00a0for more details.<\/i><\/p>\n<h2>It still doesn&#8217;t work?<\/h2>\n<p>If the .lnk file registry fix does not help, create a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/how-to-use-reg-files-registration-entries-windows\/\">registry file<\/a> (e.g. <code>pin.reg<\/code>) using Notepad with the following contents:<\/p>\n<pre>Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00\r\n\r\n[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\*\\shellex\\ContextMenuHandlers\\{a2a9545d-a0c2-42b4-9708-a0b2badd77c8}]\r\n@=\"Start Menu Pin\"\r\n\r\n[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\*\\shellex\\ContextMenuHandlers\\{90AA3A4E-1CBA-4233-B8BB-535773D48449}]\r\n@=\"Taskband Pin\"<\/pre>\n<p>Run the registry file by double-clicking on it.
