If you have a host application that you don’t want to be pinned to the Windows 7 taskbar, you can do so by adding a registry value in the application registration area. By default Windows prevents the following host processes from being pinned to the taskbar.<\/p>\n

  1. RUNDLL32.EXE<\/li>\n
  2. MSHTA.EXE<\/li>\n
  3. DLLHOST.EXE<\/li>\n
  4. APPLAUNCH.EXE<\/li>\n
  5. HH.EXE<\/li>\n
  6. WINHLP32.EXE<\/li>\n
  7. MMC.EXE<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    … and other file names defined in the following registry key in string values HostApps<\/b>, AddRemoveApps<\/b> and AddRemoveNames<\/b><\/p>\n

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \\ SOFTWARE \\ Microsoft \\ Windows \\ CurrentVersion \\ Explorer \\ FileAssociation<\/div>\n

    To remove the Pin to Taskbar (and "Pin this program to taskbar") context menu options for a particular application, use these steps:<\/p>\n

    Click Start, type Regedit.exe<\/b> and go to the following key:<\/p>\n

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\Applications<\/div>\n

    Create a subkey with the name of the application (say, \\clsidview.exe)<\/p>\n

    Select to the newly created branch:<\/p>\n

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\Applications\\clsidview.exe<\/div>\n

    In the right pane, create a String value named IsHostApp<\/b><\/p>\n

    Exit the Registry Editor.<\/p>\n
