{"id":1038,"date":"2010-04-25T16:19:34","date_gmt":"2010-04-25T10:49:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/198.58.113.91\/blog\/?p=1038"},"modified":"2024-10-03T11:27:33","modified_gmt":"2024-10-03T05:57:33","slug":"windows-search-service-error-1053-windows-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-search-service-error-1053-windows-7\/","title":{"rendered":"Fix Windows Search Error 1053 &#8220;Service did not respond&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently I came across a problem where the Windows Search service failed to auto-start, and manually starting the service using Services MMC resulted in Error 1053, with the following error message verbatim.<!--more--><\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Windows could not start the Windows Search service on Local Computer.\nError 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27909\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/wsearch-error-1053.png\" alt=\"wsearch error 1053\" width=\"412\" height=\"185\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And the following entry is recorded in the event viewer.<\/p>\n<pre>Log Name: System\nSource: Service Control Manager\nEvent ID: 7009\nTask Category: None\nLevel: Error\nKeywords: Classic\nUser: N\/A\nComputer: WIN10PC\nDescription:\nA timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Windows Search service to connect.<\/pre>\n<p>If you attempt to start the service using the &#8220;<code>net start wsearch<\/code>&#8221; command, you may see the following error:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">The service is not responding to the control function.<\/pre>\n<p>Because the Windows Search service failed to start, the indexing doesn&#8217;t run, and the controls in Indexing Options are dimmed out.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27910\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/wsearch-error-1053-indexing-options-blank.png\" alt=\"wsearch error 1053 - indexing options grayed out\" width=\"386\" height=\"251\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Note that the Windows Search (<code>WSearch<\/code>) service is set to start automatically (delayed start) by default.<\/p>\n<h2>Fix for Windows Search Error 1053<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve the problem, download the registry fix (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/how-to-use-reg-files-registration-entries-windows\/\">info<\/a>) below for your Operating System.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/w10-wsearch-1053-fix.zip\">Windows Search &#8220;Error 1053&#8221; &#8211; Windows 10\/11<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/w8-wsearch-1053-fix.zip\">Windows Search &#8220;Error 1053&#8221; &#8211; Windows 8.1<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/w7-wsearch-1053-fix.zip\">Windows Search &#8220;Error 1053&#8221; &#8211; Windows 7<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Unzip and apply the enclosed REG file.
