The problem is restricted to modern or Universal Web Apps (UWP) like Mail, OneNote, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the full error message verbatim:<\/p>\n<p class=\"err\">Your printer has experienced an unexpected configuration problem. 0x8007007e<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10269\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/printer-error-0x8007007e.png\" alt=\"printer error 0x8007007e printconfig.dll\" width=\"700\" height=\"258\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>The error 0x8007007e occurs if the module <code>PrintConfig.dll<\/code> is missing under the printer&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/cancel-stuck-print-job-queue-clearing-spool-folder\/\">spool folder<\/a>. Error 0x8007007e &#8212; ERROR_MOD_NOT_FOUND &#8211; (0x7E) &#8212; translates to\u00a0<strong>The specified module could not be found<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You can download the <code>PrintConfig.dll<\/code> from Microsoft (via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/download-missing-system-files-dll-exe-sys-from-microsoft-site\/\">WinBIndex<\/a>), or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/extract-files-windows-10-iso-dvd-install-wim\/\">extract it<\/a> from the Windows 10 ISO or DVD. Let&#8217;s start with the former method &#8212; downloading from Microsoft via the WinBIndex.<\/p>\n<h3>Method 1: Download PrintConfig.dll from Microsoft via WinBIndex<\/h3>\n<p><em>The Windows Binaries Index (Winbindex), a non-Microsoft site, allows us to quickly view information about files and download some directly from Microsoft servers.<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Visit the following URL:\n<pre>https:\/\/winbindex.m417z.com\/?file=printconfig.dll<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Select your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/find-windows-10-build-version-edition-bit\/\">Windows version<\/a> from the list.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18105\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/printconfig-dll-download.png\" alt=\"printconfig.dll download from winbindex\" width=\"1169\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/printconfig-dll-download.png 1169w, https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/printconfig-dll-download-768x394.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1169px) 100vw, 1169px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Download both <strong>x86<\/strong> and <strong>x64<\/strong> versions of the DLL. If it&#8217;s missing, that causes the error <strong>0x8007007e<\/strong> when printing from modern apps. See if you have the folder <code>Spool\\Drivers\\x64.old\\3<\/code>. If the folder exists, copy <code>PrintConfig.dll<\/code> to the <code>Spool\\Drivers\\x64\\3<\/code> folder.<\/li>\n<li>If the <code>x64.old<\/code> folder is missing in step 2, you can find the .dll file in other locations. Mount the ISO and open the <code>sources\\install.wim<\/code> using 7-Zip and extract the <code>PrintConfig.dll<\/code>. Make sure you enable <strong>Flat View<\/strong> from the <strong>View<\/strong> menu in 7-Zip to locate the DLL file inside the WIM easily.<\/p>\n<p><em>In case the file <code>install.esd<\/code> is present in place of <code>install.wim<\/code>, first, you need to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/convert-esd-to-wim-dism-windows-10\/\">convert it to the .wim format<\/a> and then open it using 7-Zip.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10276\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/printer-error-0x8007007e-iso.png\" alt=\"printer error 0x8007007e printconfig.dll\" width=\"701\" height=\"193\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>You must, however, make sure that you&#8217;re using the latest Windows 10 ISO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/slipstream-windows-10-integrate-updates-setup-media-iso\/\">slipstreamed<\/a> with the newest quality update to get the latest version of the file. In the above image, you can see that it has an older version (0.3.18362.145) of the DLL file compiled on 3-19-2019. That&#8217;s because I haven&#8217;t updated my USB setup disk as of recent.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/extract-files-windows-10-iso-dvd-install-wim\/\">How to Extract Files from Windows 10 ISO or DVD (Install.wim)<\/a><\/div>\n<h3>How did the file go missing?<\/h3>\n<p>It&#8217;s possible that you may have earlier renamed the <code>x64<\/code> folder to <code>x64.old<\/code> (as <a href=\"https:\/\/h30434.www3.hp.com\/t5\/Printer-Software-and-Drivers\/Printer-Driver\/td-p\/6337354\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow noreferrer\">advised<\/a> by your printer support team) in order to fix other printing related issue(s) &#8212; e.g., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/cancel-stuck-print-job-queue-clearing-spool-folder\/\">stuck print jobs<\/a>. As a result, the PrintConfig.dll will be under <code>Spool\\Drivers\\x64.old\\3<\/code>.
