But, when you run <code>Install-Module<\/code>, you may get the following error:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Install-Module : The &#8216;Install-Module&#8217; command was found in the module &#8216;PowerShellGet&#8217;, but the module could not be loaded. For more information, run &#8216;Import-Module PowerShellGet&#8217;.<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em>At line:1 char:1<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em>+ Install-Module<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em>+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em>+ CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (Install-Module:String) [], CommandNo<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10246\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/powershell-install-module-error-1.png\" alt=\"install-module command not found\" width=\"699\" height=\"179\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <code>Install-Module<\/code> cmdlet is available only on PowerShell 5.1 &amp; higher, and the Windows 7 &amp; 8 systems needed a PowerShell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=54616\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow noreferrer\">version upgrade<\/a> to use this cmdlet. However, on Windows 7, 8 systems with older versions of PowerShell, running the command shows the following error which is slightly different than the above:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u2018Install-Module\u2019 is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However, the above error may also occur in a Windows 10 computer which already includes PowerShell 5.1.\u00a0Running the <code>$PSVersiontable<\/code> command showed the PowerShell version on my Windows 10 v1903 system as 5.1.18362.145.<\/p>\n<pre>PSVersion 5.1.18362.145\r\nPSEdition Desktop\r\nPSCompatibleVersions {1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0...}\r\nBuildVersion 10.0.18362.145\r\nCLRVersion 4.0.30319.42000\r\nWSManStackVersion 3.0\r\nPSRemotingProtocolVersion 2.3\r\nSerializationVersion 1.1.0.1<\/pre>\n<p>Then, why doesn&#8217;t the <code>Install-Module<\/code> cmdlet work?<\/p>\n<h2>Install-Module command was found in the module PowerShellGet<\/h2>\n<p>The error <strong>Install-Module command was found<\/strong> occurs if the script execution policy is set to <strong>Restricted<\/strong>. To use the cmdlet, set the execution policy to <strong>Unrestricted<\/strong>, using the following command.<\/p>\n<pre>Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Scope Process<\/pre>\n<p>The above command sets the execution policy to <strong>Unrestricted<\/strong> for the <strong>current<\/strong> PowerShell session.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to set it permanently for the <strong>current user<\/strong>, then use this command:<\/p>\n<pre>Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Scope CurrentUser<\/pre>\n<p>To set it permanently for the <strong>local machine<\/strong>, use this command from elevated or admin PowerShell:<\/p>\n<pre>Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Scope LocalMachine<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10244\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/powershell-install-module-error-2.png\" alt=\"install-module command not found\" width=\"699\" height=\"112\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>For more information, see Microsoft documentation on <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/powershell\/module\/microsoft.powershell.security\/set-executionpolicy?view=powershell-6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Set-ExecutionPolicy<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PowerShell&#8217;s Install-Module cmdlet downloads one or more modules from a repository and installs them on the local computer.
