[Fix] Error “WLXPhotoBase.dll is missing” When Starting Movie Maker

When you open Windows Movie Maker, a part of the Windows Essentials suite, the following error may appear.

The program can’t start because WLXPhotoBase.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

This file is usually located in this folder:

[Windows 32-bit Editions]

C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Photo Gallery

[Windows 64-bit Editions]

C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery

If the file is missing, repairing Windows Essentials 2012 will restore it.

  • Open Control Panel, Programs, and Features (in earlier Windows versions, click Add or Remove Programs.)
  • Select Windows Essentials 2012, and click Uninstall/Change
  • Click Repair all Windows Essentials Programs
  • Click OK.

If the Windows Essentials 2012 entry is missing, you can run the following file to launch the repair/uninstall tool.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Installer\wlarp.exe

That should do it!

    Above solution fixed my problem.
However after first repair initialized via control panel Movie Maker opened but don’t displayed any movies only exclamation mark instead of them.
I repeated repair via C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Installer\wlarp.exe and presently everything is looking ok’ 🙂
