Show Color on Title bar, but not on Taskbar and Start Menu in Windows 10

With the Anniversary Update, you can show color on the title bar and still have the default (black) color for the Start menu and Taskbar. In earlier Windows 10 builds, you needed a registry edit to independently colorize the title bar. You don’t need to hack it anymore, as it’s now a built-in option.

Version 2004/20H2 Build 19041/19042

Open Settings (WinKey + i), click Personalization, Colors.

Enable “Title bars and window borders”

Uncheck “Start, taskbar, and action center”

colorize title bar but not for taskbar and start menu

Anniversary Update Build

Open Settings, click Personalization, Colors. Enable “Show color on title bar”.

show color on taskbar

If you don’t want to apply colors for the Start menu and Taskbar, disable the option “Show color on Start, taskbar and action center”

Pre-Anniversary Update Builds

If you don’t plan to install the anniversary update immediately, here is a registry edit to colorize only the title bar.

First, disable the following option in Personalization Settings:

“Show color on Start, taskbar, action center, and title bar”

show color on taskbar

Then, start regedit.exe and go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\DWM

Double-click ColorPrevalence and set its value data to 1

Exit the Registry Editor.

You’ll see the colored title bar while the taskbar and Start menu are black or uncolored.

Here is how it looks:

show color on taskbar

You may also turn off transparency for the Start menu and Taskbar if you like, by disabling the setting “Make Start, taskbar and action center transparent”
