Settings Crashes when Opening the About Page in Windows 10/11

When you open Settings, click System, and click on “About”, the Settings app closes automatically and generates an error report.

The Reliability History page in the classic Control Panel may show the following error:

However, you may be able to access other pages in your Settings app. Only when accessing the “About” page causes the crash.

Solution

To fix the problem, enable the “AppX Deployment Service (AppXSVC)” service. This service’s startup option would be grayed out usually. Follow these steps to enable the service.

Start the Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and go to the following branch:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AppXSvc

Double-click “Start” to 3.



(Note: Start type: 3 means “Manual” start.)

Exit the Registry Editor and restart Windows.

You should now be able to access the Settings → System → About page now. Note that you can also access this page using the Win + Pause/Break key combination.
