Fix for Network Connections Service (Netman) Error 1083 in Windows 7

When you open Network Connections folder in your Windows 7 computer, the folder may be completely blank. In some cases the following error may show up:

The Network Connections Folder was unable to retrieve the list of Network adapters on your machine.

Please make sure that the Network Connections service is enabled and running.

And when you try to start the Network Connections service, the following error may occur:

Windows could not start the Network Connections service on Local Computer.

Error 1083: The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service.

To resolve Network Connections service error 1083, use these steps:

Reset Network Connections Service Registry Keys

Download w7-netman.zip, extract and run the enlosed REG file. Restart Windows and see if you can start the Network Connections service. If the issue is unresolved, follow the next step.

Fix Svchost Registry Key

1. Click Start, type Regedit.exe and press {ENTER}

2. Navigate to the following branch:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Svchost

3. In the right-pane, double-click the value named LocalSystemNetworkRestricted

4. Check if the value data field contains the string netman. If it’s missing, add netman somewhere in the value data field, as in the graphic below:

5. Click OK.

6. Restart Windows, and check if Network Connections service starts correctly.
