Here is the list of file association fixes (Windows defaults) for some of the common file types. These registry fixes are applicable for Windows® 10 only.
Note: REG files have plain-text content, viewable using a text editor like Notepad, just in case you want to see the contents before applying.
- Download the corresponding fix from the above table. (Use Right-click – Save as option in your browser to download the fixes.)
- Unzip the file and extract the .reg file to Desktop.
- Right-click the REG file and choose Merge. Alternately, you can open the Registry Editor and then using the Import option from the File menu, to merge the REG file contents.
Note that you need to be an administrator to apply these fixes.

Will this help to resolve the following issue?…Windows keeps losing the default file association when opening zip files containing pdfs? The user has to continue to set default app setting each time, after downloading zip files, in order to view a PDF file.
Alternately, the following command might do the trick.
Right-click Start, click Command Prompt (Admin)
Type or Copy the following without the quotes and Paste in the Command Prompt window, and hit ENTER:
This worked for me.

From the missing default assocs, I miss the powershell file (.ps). When I do double-click on a PS file it opens in my default text editor (Sublime Text).
The .url fix doesn’t work. Just gives an error message about how some keys are in use or need admin privileges. Have admin privileges.
